I think I have this one http://www.flipkart.com/netgear-jwnr2010-n300-wireless-router/p/itmdpxkcezfz7rhd?pid=RTRDPXKCBHEECZQE

Alpha says I can take their router and connect my Netgear with it so it'll give me wifi as well. Also, they said their router won't provide wifi, which I frankly found weird. Either he didn't know or they actually don't. I've asked him to get the router in any case.

See this page, it clearly says the router has 1 dedicated WAN port. Also, the flipkart image from the link you sent -

The blue one is WAN. Basically it is a crossover port for connecting two routers together. You can either plug in the LAN cable (which will come into your house) directly there, or from their non-wifi router use a normal LAN cable and connect to this blue pot.

You can always connect your router to their modem/router instead of connecting a PC to it. That way, "internet" is accessed by your router instead of a PC and you can then proceed to use that "internet" as you please, including and not limited to connecting other devices to the router via LAN/Wi-Fi. I think they will give you a modem, not a router, and it is fairly common for internet companies to provide a basic router that just has one LAN output and no wi-fi.

Just click an image of your router (ports at the back), and the place where it lists model number, etc.

I'll verify and tell you if it has WAN support or not. If not, you just need to spend 100-200 bucks to buy an adapter and enjoy internet.

Okay this is embarrassing. The modem I have been using all these years is a DLink and not Netgear 300. My dad lied to me.

It's a DLink model DSL - 2750U

http://www.flipkart.com/d-link-dsl-2750u-wireless-n-adsl2-4-port-wi-fi-router/p/itmd4ky52tgtbawn?pid=RTRD4KY4UNGYCZFG

Does say switchable WAN LAN ports..

Looks like I'll be buying that adapter you told me about.

*dies of shame*

Your router (I had the same one until last month) has a feature called MDI/MDIx which basically means it supports both WAN and LAN connections. As per the manual and datasheet, it has AutoCross - i.e. senses the type of machine you are connecting it to, and automatically switches to WAN or LAN accordingly.

The max you may need is a crossover cable, or take any spare LAN cable and spend 2 minutes rewiring it (I did the same when Airtel gave me a non-Wifi modem).

Okay. I'll wait for them to come to install. Hopefully they should come today.

Thanks for the help ^__^

Got airtel back, while I'm still keeping Hathway for their unlimited downloading plans at 2-4mbps. Getting so much better pings from Airtel, difference of 50-80ms to international servers. Airtel for gaming/casual surfing, Hathway for download marathons.

Its a pity the FUP bug will be staying for a while with Indian ISP's, prohibiting any kind of service like Netflix/Hulu/AmazonTV from coming to India. I wish I could open my own ISP :P

Would I get better ping with a leased line as opposed to broadband?

Nextra spectranet none of them got back to me after I called their cc for an installation request.

f**k Indian ISPs f**kers don't want any customers.

I dont know about Nextra, but Spectranet wala said they only provide in I.P Extension in East Delhi and some areas of Ghaizabad, Noida (probably). Though that still doesn't give them a reason to not call back.
