john117
those bursts speeds are normal with airtel , just one of their tools to keep their customers happy and make them think somthing is wrong wid Airtel hope such tool keeps me happy more often and regularly OK good news for chennai ppl .. Wi5 Wi-Fi service launched in Chennai by Zylog Systems IndiaZylog Systems India has announced the launch of their Wi5 wireless internet service in the Chennai city. The company said that this service launch has made Chennai the first Wi-Fi enabled city in the country. They are using mesh network architecture to provide seamless wireless internet connectivity to their customers while travelling around the city. At the moment they are providing the service in Besant Nagar, Adyar and parts of Ashok Nagar and T Nagar. They are aiming to cover the entire city within the next 12-15 months. After that, the company aims to bring the same service to other metro cities in the country like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kolkata. Zylog spoke about Wi5: “This Wi-Fi connection will work through nodes, which will be installed across the city. This means you can access your internet anywhere in the city without the need of a router. One just needs to log in to the Wi5 website and you are online.” link-->http://business.techwhack.com/5338-wi5 http://www.wi5.co.in/wi5tariff.html

Systematic
I'm guessing since that serivce is Wi-Fi they will definately have some sort of contention ratio provision.

Systematic
even if you are getting 60% of the promised speed its cheaper then the present wired alternatives .. I'm not sure how many people are aware of this but contention ratios in India can range from 1:8 to 1:20 I.e. If the speed you're getting is 1/8th up to 1/20th of the speed advertised it's still under company standards and you can't argue against it once you've signed up for the connection because signing up technically means you agree to this compromise beforehand. I guess anyone opting for this service should be more concerned about uptime than speed. Specially as how the monsoon season is 'round the corner. Death Stryke
^Brilliant pings. 4 Mbps is so commonplace abroad
THE DIRECTOR
^Brilliant pings. 4 Mbps is so commonplace abroad true, but the fact that its ADSL, its all depends on the line quality and distance from the exchange point. im paying £15 for a unlimited 24MB connection, but because i live a certain distance from the exchange point, i then i should technically get only 13MB, but then the quality of the wire is a factor. most houses will have phone lines which are over 10 years old. as the phone line will be 99.99% BT line. quality of copper, line noise, ect.. make a difference. so its comes down to 24MB to 13MB and over all with all the factors i mentioned...... i only get 5MB.........
