Chewie
you guys missed the best part of my previous post -- piyush chawla made a 100 & was top scorer of his side. what is the world coming to? No... Very unlikely he'll he picked...He was even dropped for Zim tour...He was'nt picked in WI and Enland.. The only game he played in WI , he played @ no 6... He dint even score in India A vs SA A where most senior guys scored... Lets see..There's a ODI series against Aus in India and ODI series in SA.. Long time for SA tests...Lets see who gets picked.. what has M Vijay's being picked (or not) for ODI side got to do with him being picked for tests where, the last time he played, he was top scorer of the series. that would be grossly unjust & isnt going to happen. i doubt he'll do well in SA but then most of us (including me) thought he'd fail vs Aus too he'll get/should get atleast first 2 tests. besides there's no one else in contention now
arv95
Sachin might play his 200th test at home and might not go to SA. http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/story/667541.html Edited September 1, 2013 by arv95
harsh1387
Sachin might play his 200th test at home and might not go to SA. http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/story/667541.html What an absurd decision. This team needs him in SA. Guys like dhawan and pujara are new with another new one supposed to make debut as second opener. Moreover who cares about the 2 tests with WI. its the SA tour which matters.

silentassassin
Ffs go to SA... Its ok having your 200th test here.. Goto SA play the best , beat the best and retire being the best...
Right
Reading it wrong, they want him to retire before SA. India PAK ODIs....it's Deja Vu.
harsh1387
That's just sad. I'll lose some respect from him if that happens And why is that? You think its his decision? Its Bcci whose pulling the strings otherwise he wouldn't had retired abruptly from Odi's as well.

Its Bcci whose pulling the strings otherwise he wouldn't had retired abruptly from Odi's as well. Then he might as well retire now. Sachin is above these menial gestures and records even if BCCI wants it. It's SA where the team needs him the most. An inconsequential series just for the records is pointless. It will be worse if he doesn't even perform in it. And this series might come at a cost of reduced matches in SA which is bad too. I'd rather have him play in SA, score and retire on a high. He won't be any less of a batsman if he doesn't play his last test at home.

Its Bcci whose pulling the strings otherwise he wouldn't had retired abruptly from Odi's as well. The decision to retire from ODIs was forced in him because he was being picky and choosy about the series he plays which was hampering the long term plans for the team and so the selectors didn't want such an element in the team which is highly commendable. Same is the case with tests. If he doesn't fit the plans for the SA series then there's no point playing the WI tests either.
Nemo
When was the last time sachin scored well in tests ? I read somewhere that the gap between now and the last 100 he managed (as per number of tests) is the biggest in his career so far. So better for him to face a docile WI on home tracks and bid bye bye than have a debacle in SA (along with rest of the indian batting unit). Sach4life
I doubt this series is being held keeping sachin in mind specifically. Bcci is having some issues eith the south african board and that politics is involved. Sachin retiring after this is just speculation that people are making on their part. I doubt he would suddenly retire a month before south african tour.

Then might as well retire now, let someone else get 4 innings under their belt for match practise before the all important SA tour. I just don't see the point of having this meaningless series for a cricketer who has prided himself on not caring for records. If he isn't touring SA or the selectors don't want him for SA, there's just no point playing the WI tour either.

AtheK
Lol throw in sachin name and we have a puddle, has Sachin made any official announcement about his retirement after WI Series, he can and probably should play next year a well, provided he has the drive. This 200 test match is a media created hype, WI board has still not confirmed participation. Reason is politics and revenue, Indian team has not played much in india this year and it i hurting the revenues. Secondly CSA went and made the schedule public when it was not even finalized. 3 test, 7 ODI, 2 T20. That def is overdose.

He hasn't announced anything and neither did bcci and everyone is like he is retiring. All speculations. Sent from my Nexus 4
mshingore
No one is saying that he's retiring. But IF he is retiring OR the selectors don't want him in the team then he should retire now rather than accepting this stupid compromise from BCCI.
