Don't think it is the first time this has happened, completely legal.

On what basis is it legal?

Laws of Cricket - Law 41

"Any significant movement by any fielder after the ball comes into play, and before the ball reaches the striker, is unfair. In the event of such unfair movement, either umpire shall call and signal Dead ball. Note also the provisions of Law 42.4"

By the time the batsman hits the ball, Smith has already moved from first slip to behind the keeper. Illegal.

In the video, at the end, Morrison reads press notes from ICC.

In a press release a day after the match, the ICC said, "Given the recent trend of fielders moving in anticipation after a batsman had moved to play a shot, the ICC consulted with the MCC and advised the umpires to use the following interpretation: 'As long as the movement of a close catching fielder is in response to the striker's actions (the shot he/she is about to play or shaping to play), then movement is permitted before the ball reaches the striker. On the day, if umpires believe any form of significant movement is unfair (in an attempt to deceive the batsman), then the Law still applies.' This interpretation was discussed during the Match Officials' Workshop in Dubai in late September."

Then they should change the laws in the books.

Either that or follow what is written in the laws.

This situation is far too ambiguious. One person will be given out and someone else will be given not out.

How exactly are they going to judge whether the movement is fair or unfair?? In any case the batsman here has been decieved. Batsman only get to see the field settings behind them before the bowler begins the run-up. He sees space on the leg side, tries to play it there, but the first slip has already changed his position to leg slip. I don't think it is fair on Smith's part to be doing this.

Yeah smart thinking, and great catch, but this shouldn't be out.
