Yuvi is making a strong case of comeback. I really hope Dhawn and Nohit continue their great form.

Yuvi's scores in last 4 innings in Ranji: 59, 130, 136, 182.

People are happy with the domestic performances with the great bowling attacks in the domestic circuit. Dhawan, Rohit etc. will go and score the same thing in domestic cricket

Nohit will make those 4 innings look puny when he plays domestic cricket. His scores will be like: 159, 230, 236, 382

Such is the quality of bowling in Domestic cricket.

This guy was epic, some gems:

On what hurt more - the whitewash in England or the one in Australia

"You die, you die. You don't see which is the better way to die."

On the Australian weather

"I was sitting at home and watching television. More often than not, you watch some really strong advertisements in the lead-up to an India-Australia series. The advertisement said: 'It is winter out there, and summer out here, so get ready to feel the heat Down Under.' I took it very seriously. I didn't pack a single jacket, only to realise it is pretty cold here."

On the transition from Test veterans to ODI youngsters during the tour of Australia in 2011-12

"From Kishore Kumar, we have gone to Sean Paul."

On India's batting problems in Australia and why they were not to do with the conditions

"You won't see a Sreesanth batting like a Don Bradman just because he wants to bat like one."

:majesty::rofl:

Nope, Dravid got it bang on.

He slammed 5 hundreds in 2011 and 3 fifties AND 1 ODI 50, format which he played after 2 yrs gap, before going to Australia which was his last series and he hit one fifty there too.

In last 1 yr of his test cricket his average was 51, his career average was 52. :D

I love playing with stats:

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/28114.html?class=1;spanmax2=30+Dec+2014;spanmin2=30+Jan+2011;spanval2=span;template=results;type=batting;view=innings

He didn't mean in terms of numbers. He meant it in terms of the way he retired.

as sach4life said. also remember he was one of the seniors who were strongly criticized on Aus tour, derided for continously getting bowled in the gate & dropping catches. plus vvs & he didnt even play farewell games.

imagine the senior most player in the team now is noballs chushant. :panic: wrap your head around that folks. :samui:

not convinced about virat as test captain. where dhoni was too laidback, virat is polar opposite & may lack the patience that is needed in tests.

why cant we do something different. appoint dravid or dada as non-playing captain. he can sit on the boundary (like allan donald does for SA) & direct field settings, bowling changes etc

If Domestic scores are not to be considered , how should we pick players ?

We all Yuvi has skills , its just he needs confidence and form..

Well its pretty shitty on Domestic side, one of my relative is a Level A Coach for MP Ranji,

Irony is when he was a player, he couldn't break in the Ranji team himself. He was an aggresive WK Batsman.

People mess withe their date of birth so they keep playing under 21 until they are 24-25. This guy didn't do it, it occurred to him very late.

Then he had a chance in one of the matches in which selectors came in to watch, he didn't score much but Jalaj Saxena did and he was "younger" too so he was picked.

This guy told me that talent matters less in selection matters, you need to have strong jack too. if you are known in "circle", you would be picked. More you spent time in Ranji and sh*t lessor chances you have to break in. if you get in their good books in first 2 yrs, you get your national ticket or just keep waiting for eternity.

But thanks to Seenu mama (seriously), on state level everyone makes good money, he himself gets 2.5L per month, per diem on tours and stuff. Now they get to stay in good hotels too...not cheap-a*s hostels.

I don't think we can go lower than where we already are.

You don't understand. We can get lower. We are losers. We lose all series. At least we don't do that in bad spirits. Imagine cursing and cribbing and pushing and still losing.

We can get a lot lower. Of course we won't since a real test is like 3 years away. Lol.

Dhoni could have easily completed 10 more tests. He could have easily announced that he will retire after the last match and get a farewell. He could have said that at the press conference. Get all the attention.

He did not. That's the guy for you. Always happy to be in the background. You may want to run back the videos after our World Cup victories. He was standing in extreme corners in all the official pics that were taken after the celebrations. That's the guy for you. No fanfare. No publicity. Just do his work. Things will fail and things will work. No point worrying too much about them.

Respect.

BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel has said that MS Dhoni conveyed the BCCI of his decision to retire from Test cricket only after the drawn Melbourne Test.

While speaking to PTI about the Indian captain’s abrupt decision to call time on his Test career, Patel said: "MS is a very practical man. Today, he called up just after the Test match in Melbourne and told me that he wanted to retire from Test cricket. "I asked him, 'What happened are you injured or what?' He just calmly told me, 'No, I just want to quit Test cricket for good.’”

He added: “He is an Indian captain and a distinguished cricketer. It's his personal choice and I needed to respect that. "I asked him, 'Is it your final decision,' and he told me, 'Please wait a bit as I want to inform the boys about my decision and then you can make an official announcement.' He duly called up and told me that I have informed the boys and you can go ahead.”

“In the meanwhile, I also contacted chairman of selectors Sandeep (Patil) and Shivlal Yadav. Both felt that we should respect Dhoni's decision.”

Not a decision taken in haste

Patel also revealed that Dhoni had already discussed with him about his retirement, but he wasn’t expecting it this soon.

He said: "I was a bit taken aback by the suddenness of his statement. But we had spoken about it before the Test also. Now what transpired between us is an internal matter, but I can tell you that it wasn't a decision taken in haste. It was done after due deliberations."

When asked if the 33-year-old got emotional over the phone, he said, "I didn't feel that. But someone, who was present in the dressing room told me that he (Dhoni) was a bit emotional while announcing his decision. He has given fantastic service to Indian cricket and the BCCI has always believed that retirement is any player's personal choice.

"You have to understand that Dhoni knows the rigours that his body has taken in Test cricket more than anyone else. But there isn't a single murmur about his leadership in the shorter formats. There is no question of any change in that regard."

Maybe he should have requested BCCI for a farewell series and called West Indies or something to play that with final match in Ranchi or something. But that would have been utterly selfish and moronic thing to do. Oh wait...

Farewell test series for Dhoni?

Why not just play his 1st inning batting in 3rd test in loop for 5 days and save everyone from the bore.

exactly. all the criticism has been of him as a test captain. no one has said anything about him as a player or LOI captain. the fact that he himself has quit test formats first shows that he prefers LOI formats which is his prerogative & fair enough.

sachin didnt do that he was given that 'option' which he knew was more than a suggestion. he was preparing himself for SA tour before he was 'nudged'.

"If you look at it overall, there was no doubt he was India's most successful Test captain. The numbers don't lie," Dravid said. "There's no doubt that he didn't have the best of times, especially over the last four years, in overseas conditions. Maybe it's also a reflection of the fact that the team was in transition, it was changing times, especially in the bowling department. It's not easy to captain a team when you don't have the resources to be able to take 20 wickets."

"He was never defensive when captaining in India," Dravid said. "When he had spinners, he was always attacking, on turning tracks, he was willing to force the game. It's just overseas, and over the last three or four years, that I just think he maybe felt he didn't have the bowling resources to be able to take 20 wickets, and he found himself, at many stages, always behind the four-ball.

"It's hard to attack for the sake of attacking when your runs are leaking at four, four-and-a-half an over, when your batsmen - as it happened on the two tours I played at the end of my career in England and Australia - are struggling as well. We just didn't put enough runs on the board for a captain to be aggressive and attacking enough.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/current/story/815145.html

As everyone with some sense always said, he always had idiot bowlers and some old, expired batsman, playing around waiting for selectors to drop them. And then young batsman like Pujara and Nohit who were nothing but flat track bullies. Still people criticized him for sticking with Vijay due to CSK quota, and Vijay has made everyone eat crows and crow sh*t too.

Now lets wait and watch Kohli trying to be aggressive with the sh*t team and fall flat on his face, crying and whining like a little bitch while doing that. It is going to be even more embarrassing to watch. Ghoda maidan door nahi hai. Thank god he retired with one test remaining, so that we see the sh*t show, else we would have seen this flat track bullies won the first test subcontinent and everyone saying this is what we wanted.

However, the current team will try the best to win the last match as a tribute to Dhoni, and maybe that will push them. Maybe Ishant and Ashwin will bowl out of their skin as they will now realize that their places are no longer safe. Maybe Nohit's MMS wont be as effective and he will take his batting seriously. Lets see
