TAZ
Guys i just want to ask you guys one thing.. How will the Team owners recover the amount they have invested in the IPL teams.. Advertisement and Sponsors won't give you that much..
godspeed4476
Maybe you're right, WWE is orchestrated, but not everything, only the endings and the major turning points, all the rest is upto the two wrestlers who communicate with each other throughout the whole match. Cricket match fixing is different and most probably not as organized as you've stated but I merely meant to say that things such as 6 on the last ball are logically possible. That lollipop full toss was The era of match fixing has gone away after the azharuddin and hansie cronje debacle. even during those days, at the most 2-3 players would be fixed and it would be their responsibility to make the team loose a match. also if the other players are having a field day, then they can easily win the match, for instance munaf was pretty much playing for RCB yesterday , but still MI won. Spot fixiing is much more easier and profitable for both players as well as bookies, rather than betting on a single string i.e, loss or win of the match, the bookies can take bets on multiple strings, i.e, no ball, wicket, wide etc.

How will the Team owners recover the amount they have invested in the IPL teams.. Advertisement and Sponsors won't give you that much.. wrong, the franchises get a Lions share of television rights money, i think it is more than 70%, i think they also get the majority portion or may be everything from ticketing sales of matches which itself runs into crores, combined with merchandising, advertisement and sponsorship, its a mean money machine EDIT : just to give u an idea, the television rights were sold for $1 billion and more for period of 10 years and the kingsiher pays close to 140 crores for sponsorhip of umpires, and then there is DLF, karbonn, Volkswagen and other sponsors as well pooling in multi crores Edited May 15, 2012 by godspeed4476

silentassassin
So who was fixed ?? Did they pay the bowler to get hit for 6 or did they pay the batsman to hit the 6 ?? Someone please confirm.. Also international players , or players who have made a name for themselves have everything to lose if they fix.. They get paid well , commercials etc..If they get caught they career is ruined.. Only fools will take that risk... did you see how dilshan got out on a lollipop full toss from Munaf RP Singh? Wanted to post the same thing.. Got to agree with Ambar..Most people who post bs are either people who dont know or never played cricket... Big Boss
oh you were that teenage sensation who hit century in 17 balls Nah, I never got past 50-60. IIRC, my highest score was 68 something. But I used to make the runs in really quick time. It was like a gift. Too bad never got it further I remember when I was called for a match by some kids and they challenged the opposition for the money. They got two players like me, and the opposition got really scared. We were put in to bat and we all 3 got out on first 3 balls, I got caught in slips by edging (that player was not even a slip, he was there to prevent wides from going to boundary as keeper was always gaddha [those who misfield were called gaddha]) So, needless to say, we were about to lose the match and the money, so when opposition was winning, we all ran away And I remember not taking the route where the opposition played for months. Ah those were the days. apne mooh miya mitthu? Nah, I dont lie. At least about cricket. My favorite sport BY FAR.

Unknown players or not,it damages the reputation of the IPL.Already lots of people are suspicious of the IPL matches and such incidents don't help.India TV is POS channel,no doubt, but every trustworthy news outlet(TOI,NDTV,Espncricinfo etc) has carried the story,so the damage is done. BBCI has also said that it has found some evidence against the players and hence the suspension. Edited May 15, 2012 by Sufyan

Everyone knew about it but now that its on national TV,the foreign press, which has always been critical of the IPL,will highlight the story. Spot fixing vs Match fixing:I don't think there is any greater or lesser evil. The sting tapes in this case are inconclusive so the BCCI should have given the player the benefit of doubt. avkash
80% is a lot amirite? For the rest 20% things aren't always right and we have different outcomes and that is why IPL isn't wwe I'm not aware of any India TV report, who pays attention to that channel? By that math in each one out of give matches bookies can practically lose crores. Then what is the point of fixing. It then becomes a bet with a higher probability of winning. The whole idea of fixing is that you reduce the variable part of the bet to zero. Basically you SURELY win. ALWAYS. Also Aman
Death Stryke
Everyone and their dog knows WWE is staged. Does that reduce the entertainment value? No. Does that mean people stop watching WWE? No. Same case here. Lets stop worrying about all that and enjoy a good evening of cricket. Itna load mat lo. Waise bhi it was India TV.

These issue prop up all the time, remember the the Pakistanis spot fixing incident in recent? As I said earlier there is a great amount of difference between the two in the context of a match. A player can decide to bowl a couple of no balls in spot nixing and it's impact would be almost negligible on the outcome of the match. Whereas, match fixing I.e, what cronje used to do by involving couple of players in the team has a complete impact on the results of the game. IPL is going to be here also with it the doomsday conspiracy theorist, there is nothing a news report like this would do to it
