abhi90
Two recent instances FORCED me to post this thread........ first of all....is about the gt5p update problem... though there are problems and update cancels and next time it starts from beginning..... but the update is saved, and it continues from the last time that it had an error........ the second one is too weird....... you try to switch on/off or eject a disc while even having a single layer handkerchief over your finger..... the ps3 wont do anything no matter how hard you press........ Weird isnt it ?
Pushy
the second one is OMFG, me needs to try it...

TropicalRajput
PS3 uses a heat detection system for the on/off, eject button. Your body parts = 24/7 heat
rAgHaV
yeah i've tried that many times it wont switch on/off unless you press the power pad with your fngers..
abhi90
instead of heat detection..........i think the metallic on/off and eject buttons check by a little electric current....
Rashmeet
tropicalrajput is correct....it usues heat detection... rather technicaly it has biometric sensors
The Dude
emm the best thing to do would be to blow that single layer handkerchief and then try to use it to switch on/off.
SamSandeep
the second one is too weird....... you try to switch on/off or eject a disc while even having a single layer handkerchief over your finger..... the ps3 wont do anything no matter how hard you press........ Harsahil
^^ that explains why the eject and power buttons dint work when i applied the DecalGirl skin a long time ago. exactly the same thing happened with me too.. didn't know that the reason would be so advanced... now that's the 11th thing that Sony doesn't tell u abt PS3 when they should, cos obviously this shows that the technology used in PS3 is topnotch

a5hr1th
PS3 uses a heat detection system for the on/off, eject button. Your body parts = 24/7 heat instead of heat detection..........i think the metallic on/off and eject buttons check by a little electric current.... tropicalrajput is correct....it usues heat detection... rather technicaly it has biometric sensors How can you people come to a conclusion like that?? sh*t It definitely works through current conduction, so Abhinit, you're right for once! I may sound stupid, but WTF. Try plugging in your PS3 to a wall socket which is not grounded. Then try touching the metallic parts of the PS3, either the chrome finish, the power or the eject buttons, without wearing any footwear and stand on the floor and not the carpet. The finger that's touching the button will feel minute electrical charges. I know this, coz my house is full of ungrounded sockets. Though the PS3 socket is grounded, for heaven's sake. Try touching the power button with something that's cold and doesn't conduct electricity. If it was heat sensitive, then my PS3 would turn on and off randomly, coz in Gujarat, the temperatures soar to 48 celsius in the summer! And obviously, thats more than anybody's optimum body temperature of 36.8 celsius! When you touch the power or eject buttons, the PS3 doesn't magically know that by the temperature of your body. Apparently, your finger completes the circuit. All the console forums I frequent are full of "the PS3 buttons work through heat detection" topics, so one can get confused easily. Correct me if I'm wrong
CarbonCore
Its not heat sensitive, its touch sensitive like your laptop trackpad or iPod scroll wheel, except its less sensitive to avoid accidental eject/power on.
