KnackChap
@ Liquid Ocelot can some one explain me how the combat is bland if its a copy of the much acclaimed god of war ? ok i can see the complaint of not having multiple enemies but how exactly is the combat bland if you (and me) loved doing the same thing with kratos v1 and v2 ? Dude please, stop defending every little thing. you know what? the werehog section in sonic unleashed were inspired by god of war, he even had arms that extended like kratos's blades, does that automatically make the combat as good as GOW? i dont think so, its by far the worst purchase i made in the last 2 years and i got it used from TP. a lot more goes into combat design than just copying combos and button layout. dante77
surely it could have been. I just am saying that anyone (not saying- you) who is dissing this game on the story should do well to remember that GOW essentially is just kratos killing the gods for .. ?? what exactly ? There, it too does not have a great story, but does it make the gow games any less epic ? no it does not. Dante imo at lest has a better motive- running through hell to save his love (and tem tittyies) and for his own salvation compared to kratos' 'GOTTA KILL EM ALL' routine. dude, either you didn't understand the story or u haven't played any GOW game yet. The game has EPIC story. Note that this comment is nothing related to Dante's less enjoyment of the game because of the story. Its only about GOW. killroy
I could argue on the god of war having EPIC story part. There is hardly any story to go by. You are mistaking the awesome setting and backdrop for story I think. Look at both games for example. God of War 1 hardly had any story in it...the only snippets were rushed at you once you reach the Cliffs of Madness...which is way later on in the game...until then hardly anything to go by other than the fact that you have to kill Ares. God of War 2 has something similar going on, narrative does not really pick up until the finale. God of War games are all about the gameplay...the minute to minute awesomeness of controlling Kratos. While the story is not exactly dynamic...its the static EPIC backdrop and setting that the developers have chosen that matter. Thanks to that everything feels way more bigger than it really is. As for Dante's Inferno...they murdered the poem...which is way more EPIC than god of war can ever be. This coming from someone who put down money for the ultimate edition of god of war 3. Just making a point. @dante...What is there to understand in god of war's story...Nemo is right...there isnt much to go by...Kratos ANGRY...KRATOS KILL! Thats all you need to know. This isnt Memento or The Usual Suspects...for anyone to tax their brains
dullu
killu; they could not have shown you singing verses and killing beasts now....could they? OR....... OR....... what if it would have been a survivor's tale? just like the original poem? Where Dante simply goes, sees, and slowly evades.... splinter cell in hell
killroy
@dullu: Yeah they took some liberties...but much more than they needed too. Also splinter cell in hell...LOL Speaking of singing verses, now that almost every household has a Guitar Hero/Rock Band/Singstar microphone...they should totally do some sort of wizard/witch game where you have incant crap to make sh*t happen. Tantrik Wars...4 vs 4 team deathmatch...Curse your friends to oblivion!

ghb
God of War 2 has something similar going on, narrative does not really pick up until the finale. maybe this will help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_of_war_2
killroy
@ghb: Still not convinced that the cutscenes which show the past setting and backdrop throughout the game can pass off as Story. Anyways...you have your point, I have mine. I'd like God of War 3 to have much more PRESENT dynamic stuff going on in the story. Something that deals more with Kratos. KnackChap
so are you selling it anytime soon? not anytime soon, wanna see how bad it gets. just finished a 10 min on-rails flying section a few days ago and instead of you being in direct control of the turret here its handled like a QTE with buttons appearing enemy ships as they fly by. WOW, Sonic team. WOW!!!

HundredProofSam
If you're going to look at Dante's Inferno from a technical point of view, it looks good, the evironments and atmosphere is good, the combat is adequate, and it runs at 60fps. So if you just go by that, its a good game. But in practice, the combat is actually not adequate. You have various combos, focussed and ranged attacks and an evade move, but all of that pretty much comes to naught because it isn't as responsive as you would expect. Not as responsive or fluid as GOD OF WAR (sue me). Many of the enemies (usually the smaller ones) will get the better of you because they're fast, and you just aren't. Maybe thats a fault in the AI design, but it reflects poorly on the combat system. The game starts out well and about an hour in, the quality plateaus. It doesn't drop so it isn't a bad game, but it doesn't climb so it isn't a great one either. The feeling after finishing bossfights is more of relief (that its over) than accomplishment, the rappling platform is atrocious, the puzzles are poor. And ya, as I said before, the game doesn't make you relate to Dante at all, and this is mainly because they chose to build his character through flashbacks via stylised 2D cutscenes. 2D story cutscenes in 3D games don't work. peace
achilles
in GOW, when any enemy type is about to attack you, there is that momentary indication, maybe through a sound or graphic or any other thing.. but you get to know and can block adequately. in this one it's all random. and not being able to block is my main gripe. the first upgrade i got was for the timed block in which if you block at the exact moment Dante gives it back. like the Golden Fleece in GOW. hell i could block better in heavenly sword.
