CHECK_THIS
its the best one that I have seen - works well So this is an interesting concept. I tried this with my 360 and the results were quite good. Only problems were 1 Having a constant cable between the 360 and the PC is not viable and I am not going to fork over cash for the MS wirless thingy 2 I used WMP 11 to share stuff and the problems were mostly limited codec support. But on the PS3 there seems to be a rather neat work around, ran across it on EG. http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/ Dont have a PS3 ATM, although I am contemplating getting one (what with the price drop and all). So I am wondering if someone here can try it out and report back. Alternatly if someone has tried Tversity on 360 and can let me know if its worth it? BTW if you are wondering what the thread is about or how to go about setting one up google is your best friend. For people who are into HTPC stuff its a godsend. And if the thread is duplicate of some other floating around the infinite maybe a mod can merge them.
_Batman_
oh thank god this thing finally worked for me, it was my damn anti virus firewall which was blocking networking connections. i am using PS3 Media Server to stream mkv files, i have quite a old system P4 3.4 GHz Proccy but it still works flawlessly my only complaint is that i am not able to rewind forward videos easily, it takes lot of time. is there any other good media server app which is good (with mkv streaming support)
axisjump
I found TVersity to be more user friendly than Google Media Server, though both could use with some update as to choose what files to serve...

Angad.
So finally after trying ps3 media server connection out, i have to say, am totally lost. The connection I am trying to establish is between the laptop (windows 7) and ps3 using an 'ethernet cable'. Now i assigned the pc and ps3 a static ip and am able to ping the ps3 from my laptop. But when I run the ps3 media server, it says ps3 not found. On checking the trace log it shows its connected fine and that the media server should now be visible on the renderer. I have also disabled the firewall totally, activated media sharing in network settings, activated ps media server setting in ps3, yet it doesnt work . Has anyone tried this setup, i.e wired connection instead of wireless?
ayush12ice
I have it on wired connection. Upnp should be enabled on the ps3 and on the router as well.
Angad.
Do i need to involve the router? Cant i make this thing work without the router, i.e connecting the ps3 with pc directly using an ethernet cable?
Ram Dante
With the router its a lot more easy..Without the router you need to properly setup statics ips and default gateway! P.S I am trying to get Dolby TuHD and DTS HD from by Blu ray rips on the ps3! Has anyone been successful on this front??
Angad.
Finally got it to work on my PC (still cant get it to work on my laptop. Seems like some problem in its upnp as my router is not abl to identify it as upnp enabled ) and I must say......ITS BLOODY MAGIC!!!!!!
Angad.
Hi friends....am back again !!! I got the ps3 media server working, but during playback of some of my mkv files (i noticed the video in all these files were @ 25fps, while all other mkvs which worked fine had fps 23.xxx) the video is lagging behind the audio by atleast 3-4 seconds!!! Now when I play the same mkvs on my PC using vlc player, it runs smoothly without any lags in audio!! I even disabled 'A/V sync alternative method' and activated 'Force framerate parsed from FFmpeg', yet there was no difference in the lag! Can someone helo me out please !!
