More memory on the graphics card means less stress on it and other components for swapping out textures and graphics data plus smoother gameplay. I suggest going for the 1GB one. The price is fair and you're only paying around 2K extra. Cut down on RAM and HDD. In layman's terms Anti-aliasing is a technique used to smooth out edges and generally make images a lot smoother with minimal geometric distortion. AA is a algorithm to smoothen out the edges .. basically it calcutes a frame twice ( incase of 2x AA) and averages it out to smoothen the edge. Its a birds eye view of wats happening .. modern AA methods are very complicated and if you wanna know u can always google it .By the way AA has been the achillies heel of current gen nvidia cards .. they beat ati cards,eg 9800 gtx+(or gts250) and 4850 ,(although margin is never more than 3-4 fps ) with AA turned off , but when AA is turned on Ati cards take the lead .So whoever told you ati has lower benches with AA need to get his facts right .. B. You cant go wrong with 1gb 4870 for 16k .. its the best card available in India for that price(nearest competitor is gtx260 core 216 which retails for 20k INR). And dont go by tom's review their benches are not reliable ,. most of time they test only on games which favour nvidia (TWIMTBP program ) .A better place to look for reviews is anandtech.com they are de facto standard for unbiased and thorough reviews. check out the reviews of both gts 250 and 4870 on their site. C. My experience with 48xx series .. last six months i was using 4850 512 mb .. i could play all recent games with every thing maxed out at 1440x900 resolution with exception crysis in Dx10 ( was getting around 20-25 fps in dx10 very high) and mirrors edge with physx on .. turned off physix and voila 50 fps .Recently i have upgraded the card to 4870 1 gb and i can now play crysis with very high ,dx10,1440x900 and 16x AA .. i guess it will handle all the games coming in next six months .. after that again upgrade .. D. Wait for april .. its not that far now .. as price cut and 4890 are coming .. so who knows u may get a 4870 1gb for 14k then .. btw convince ur parents to get it online you can get awesome deals or alternatively you can come down on a weekend to primeabgb lammington road ,bombay aint that far from pune .. E. I guess if some1 hasnt told you then lemme tell you DONT EVER EVER compromise on psu .. u dont wanna see u r 50k pc go in smoke just because u saved 2k on psu .. just ask reaper .. i guess this must have calmed some of the worms of doubt and indecision squiggling in your head ..
