Assembling a PC -- Head Here

20k is a bit tight for a 4850+Mobo+Proccy+SMPS. You might need another 2-3k or so to make it work. And a bit more if you dont have a hard disk and compatible RAM.

As far as your first question goes a 4850 is a very good card and will easily last you till the next year and probably a bit longer as well. And it will play stuff like Fallout, AC, PoP fully maximised without a stutter.

^^

i know 20k is gonna be tight, but i am looking at a time frame of december 09-jan 2010 of building a pc, as i said i will only need it to play games that are gonna get released this year or hav released prior.

Anything after jan 2010, i'd get them on my ps3.. The reason is that I dont want to spend money on games like bioshock, deadspace, FO3, mirror's edge which are still near launch price for consoles but cheap for PC. I got my ps3 a month ago so i kinda missed out on them.

So if u can then please give me a rough idea of the stuff I can get around 25k at present, with a 4850 included. Also by how much can the whole price drop till december. I have a hard disk but U hav to include a 2 GB ram (it will suffice, rite ??)

P.S. Awesome sigg..!! Aftrunner, saw Leon again yesterday after a long time and realised just how much i love the movie.

Guys..I need to upgrade one of my old systems,so would like your advise on what specs to go for.Not looking for monitor..only wanna upgrade the CPU.Budget is 25k as the system will be used for net surfing and some gaming(TF2,L4D etc.).Only thing I'll be salvaging from the old CPU would be the DVD burner.

So looking for specifications that would fit under this budget cause it's time I get rid of this ancestral trash.

This combo should suit your need will be power efficient and good for decent gaming

E5200 - 3.6K (Does 4GHz on Air good cooler required tho )

Gigabyte G31 S2l - 2.3k

2GB Ram - 1.3k

Ati 4670 512MB 4.2k ( lowest Idle good while surfing ) get the palit on it comes with HDMI

500 GB HDD 2.8K

Cabinet of your choice around 2k

Power supply Zebronics Realwatt 550Watt 2.7k (OEM is HEC)

ODD 1.2k

If you wanna save a bit get the zebronics real watt 350 it has 23 amps on 12V and will suffice the above config

@Cortez dont go for Cm extreme Series PSu they are crap instead get a Corsair

if you are tight on budget get a 80+ certified zebronics they are HEC oem's and pretty good PSU's

@Nemo

ok if you wanna play current gen games then go for the 4770 instead of 4850. its cheaper and performance suffers only in the range of 5 to 10%

4770 will allow you to play all current gen games with good resolution and high settings

ya and when you ask ppl for suggestion regarding graphic cards please mention the monitor you intend to use with it

@P3ace

I wid most likely be using my current monitor, which too is pretty old but does the job. Its a LCD samsumg syncmaster 15" or i can use a hdtv (which i will have most likely by diwali this year). As i mentioned before I will not built this rig before 2009 ends.. so I am hoping that the computer stuff gets a price drop. I just need something that can run crysis at high. not eye popping balls twisting very, extreme, super high... but at decent level.

Dude if you want to buy in Dec why are you doing all permutation now, off all you know the card might not be in production by then. I will suggest keep frequenting forums like erodov or TE they have really good deals on PC component when ever you see something going for cheap pick it.

I dont mean to be rude man but asking advice on building a PC that you will buy six months from now is stupid as hell. Never even mind the new components that would be out by that time, the price fluctuations alone will make the question redundant.

well the price drop is the main criteria I already hav brought a ps3 so wont be having huge money to burn. Actually i just though of it out of the blue yesterday and came here to get a general idea.

I dont want a sate of the art stuff. Just wanted to know what stuff is though of as 'good' right now so i can keep it in mind later. I apologize if it did upset u.

U can do that there too. The guys there are better placed to answer u and know pretty much everything and don't have a lot of airs around noobs as far as I have seen. Just go through their buying guides and similar threads which other people like u have put up which are a lot

^Just wait up till December. In PC components world, 6 months is a decade. Just wait it out and start asking around in November-December only for prices and best products to take etc

yeah.. now when i think of it, it makes more sense. will do so.

it will be a borderline case, i would advise to upgrade, it will power on and all, but then your card might get damaged.

Guys..my PC just died so posting this through mobile. Also my budget has been bumped to 50k. Will be going for a quad setup now so need advice on which processor and mobo to go for alongwith their prices. Also gonna use some specs mentioned in previous posts i.e.

1.RAM 2x2 GB DDR2 800Mhz Transcend

2.Cooler Master Elite 334 ATX

3.Cooler master Extreme 600W

4.Western Digital 500GB SATA II

So need proc and mobo advice with prices. Will decide by tonight which 512mb or 1GB card to go for(4850,4870).And finally should I invest in more RAM.

Well RAM is cheap as you want, so if you have some spare cash left over at the end of building a rig shove some RAM in. But its fairly easy to upgrade later as well so its not a biggie. My advice is get 4GB and that should be enough for a long while.

Here is the mobo and proccy.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L - 5.5k

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 - 8.9k

Also if budget permits get the 1GB version of the GPU you are getting.

guys i have a question....currently i am using my lappie as a docking station at home as in like a desktop by attaching a 22inch tft samsung to it keyboard speakers mouse etc... and using it only as cpu... however i am beginning to feel the pinch of only 320 gb hard drive space ...i even bought additional 320 gb transcend storejet.... my dell laptop is Dell XPs 1530 model with following config :-

intel core 2 duo T7500 @ 2.2 Ghz

4 Gb ddr2 RAM @ 666mhz

320 gb HDD

Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT

Hdmi

Now, I am keen on assembling a new CPU ( i do not need a tft or speakers keyboard mouse etc... ( have razer lachesis :ranting: ) . my question to you guys is the main reason for me to assemble a CPu is i want more HDD space. then ill use my laptop as a laptop only. Or should i just upgrade the laptop HDD >? and if i can do tht whats r the prices for 1 TB hdd for laptop etc. Also what would be the cost of assembling top of the line CPU with gfx card right now from lamington road ? :chair:

experts please guide me.

i dont think you can get a 1 TB internal HDD for the laptop, external yes you can.

Top of the line PC with i7 proc will cost you around 85-90k
