Hot-Drake-Pixel
Now that it is no secret that PS3 is growing bigger and bigger on it's owners with every passing day, lets discuss and share what we have done with our PS3 console. PS3's open architecture gives oppertunity to endless enhancements. Even people are replacing it's harddisk with higher capacity ones. So lets us share all such enhancements(Hardware as well as software) that we have done our PS3 console. Lets say: Linux on PS3. Media Server. Getting DivX on PS3. Anything at all. Cheers! Hot-Drake-Pixel
Guys try this out, if you haven't already. I did install this media server on my PC. Now my PC streams all its audio, video and photos to PS3 via wireless router. So I dont need to worry about iPOD integration anyway as I have shared by native directory of iPod on my PC thru this media server and I can access all iPOD content on PS3. In Addition, TVERSITY converts most of my downloaded AVIs to PS3 format and streams. Although I am having trouble with some codecs. But I can play most of my AVIs now on PS3 without installing any Linux(and VLC player on it). I have experienced network failure at times but mainly due to the router. TVersity Home PS: It doesnt add to your bandwidth usage from service provider.
THE DIRECTOR
nice find mate, my ps3 is still in the UK, but i got on launch day in the UK, and about 5 days after its release, i put in a 160GB HDD, and Yellowdog. but unfortunately, i never had a chance to run open office on it. i know it was a rumor like in April that u can also run windows. but i do feel that the linux feature still need to have features that will make ps3 user want to use the other OS option. vinitwins
TVERSITY's full potential is unlocked when you have a fat pipe (fast internet connection) - finding & browsing internet tv & radio is almost painless and some of the content available matches whats being broadcast on cable networks! V ps: x360 owners can stick with WMP11/Media Center (although you lose out on transcoding i.e. playing back unsupported file formats like XVID & DIVX albeit at a loss in quality)
MightySkate
Nice topic PRASABHU Well, i've managed to stream most of my movies, mp3's and pics but like you said, some avi's just refuse to play and i get data corrupted. I've read on some sites that this is a codec issue, and that Tversity doesn't quite manage on-the fly transcoding with some codecs. I'm streaming wirelessly and of course that limits it to 54MBps compared to 100MBps for a wired connection. But even then, i have a 720p blu ray, encoded with mkv. While the video quality is amazing, there'a lot of sound stuttering and audio just dies out after sometime. If anyone here has manged to stream movies pls share with us your experiences. Hot-Drake-Pixel
I can not be happier. I started this thread on 13th Sept and didn't get a single reply till yesterday. I ,being an open source fan, always supported linux and thus PS3's open architecture. M$ on the other hand will never allow such a thing on XBOX franchise(unless ofcourse you hack it and void you warranty) as windows is their BnB. Keep posting and bring new facts, theories, nice to haves in here. After all we are consumers and deserved the max outta anything we spend on. I have faced the same issue when I started. Take following actions and let us know if it worked. It did for me. I use my BSNL wireless router. And do not under estimate your wi-fi because 54MB(BYTE)'s is huge and that's not the bottleneck. You gotta look at your TVersity. 1> Setting-->Transcoder--> Temporary media Files: Increase the size to 1 gig 2> Setting-->Transcoder--> maximu Timeshift: Set it to 60 mins 3> Start the movie from PS3 and then pause it for your toilet break and then play. Hot-Drake-Pixel
Today I tested PS3 remote play on PSP. It is a huge enhancement with firmware 3.72[psp]. I switched off my PS3 but let the power supply on and modem running. Then i went to a shopping mall near by(4-5kms away). I used the wifi hotspot there and was able to switch on the PS3 at home, view all the media contents in it. Finally when I was done, I could switched off the PS3 at home from the shopping mall itself. Returned home and found PS3 as I left earlier like nothing happened. Remote play was the single most reason I purchased PSP. PS3 simply won't stop impressing me. Firmware 3.72 required on PSP to avail this remote connectivity feature. Now I can access my PS3 from any corner of the world and all I need is internet connectivity.
