Keyofx
I might just pick this up, if only to support TwistedPixel. They seem like a nice bunch of guys. Maybe I should pick up Jon Blow's Braid premium theme since I'm feeling so charitable :\ Gamespot Interview GS: What was the inspiration behind the gameplay? What can we expect from a gameplay perspective? MW: We looked at a lot of games for reference, including the Mario series (mostly for its 3D platforming and general control feel), Ratchet & Clank, A Boy and His Blob, Ico, Wild 9, Katamari, and many others. I'll also throw a little bit of Earthworm Jim in there because the gameplay is varied in The Maw. One minute you're leashed to Maw feeding him creatures, the next you're swinging through the air, then you're riding on Maw's back, then flying a spaceship, and on and on. As Maw grows, Frank needs to interact with him differently, so the gameplay evolves throughout the game. The leash can be used in many ways other than simply attaching it to Maw. Each level requires a bit of puzzle-solving and experimenting with Maw's powers. Did anyone play that old Crystal Dynamics game from '03 called Whiplash? It was very similar to The Maw with similarly hilarious main characters and a leash mechanic. The comedy came with a very satisfying mean streak, too. Shame no one played it :\
Bulovski
Anyone who likes quirky games should pick this up definitely. It's short, but the price is also reasonable. And the time you play it is absolutely amazing.
Keyofx
We're talking 550 points for the game if you exclude 250 for the free premium theme. Fair price I guess.
Bulovski
completely - i didnt mind paying for this one at all
Keyofx
Update: It took me 45 minutes to finish the first two levels (and I got a 100% eaten only on the second one). Either the puzzles have been balanced to perfection or I'm not very smart
Bulovski
Puzzles are like that only - they are perfectly balanced, some of them will just stop to make you think for a bit but not in the league of Braid headbashing
vinitwins
^ those BIG question marks (clues) really dumb down the puzzles... V
Keyofx
Short?! It took me AN HOUR to complete level 4 alone. I had to go back and forth a bunch of times just finding creatures to eat and figuring out where to go followed by how to get there. @vinitwins: The hints aren't as obvious later on as it was in that demo level. vinitwins
completed the mutant-peacock stage (playing daily for 20mins after lunch), easy as pie till now. V
Keyofx
That's stage 5. I haven't started that one yet. What's your total playtime?
Bulovski
the Mutant Peacock has the best expression - when he warped i lmao
vinitwins
@key - i have a top50 time for level 4/dirtlands (first attempt!); i've taken ~12-15 mins for the other levels. V
vinitwins
completed the sucker today - if it weren't for the controls/camera angles (and some horrendous bugs - i lost access to the 'tether to maw' button 4 times in different locations on level 5), this game would have been a cakewalk (i.e. playtime of under 90mins). Keyofx
I've been taking my time with it. Two days and just 4 levels done, all with 100% eaten. The puzzles took me a lot longer to figure out than it took vinit. This is the perfect ICO-game, something that your wife/girlfriend/kids will enjoy watching as well as playing. Perfect for passing the controller between the two (or more) of you and light enough that everyone has a good time. And the maw is brilliant! I love his 100% eaten expression. He looks so pleased with himself Edit: I took a whole hour to figure out Dirtlands! How the heck did you get a Top 50 time?!
vinitwins
^ i suck at twitch gaming (blame my old age and onset of arthritis) - but the 25yrs i've spent playing electronic games does gimme a better perspective at puzzle-based and adventure games V

vinitwins
^ no there are definite bugs in the game. in the peacock level i lost the ability to fire during a fight sequence. and in level 5 i couldn't tether to maw no matter what (happened 4 times, had to restart the game) - in the end i had to lay a bread crumb trail for maw towards the end zone.
