Hi all,

First of all let me say that this is one of the best (if not THE best) forums for us Indian PS3 owners. It almost feels like this is one big happy Family .

Well, I am finally joining the PS3 owners list. However, before that, I had certain queries which needed to be answered (not that it would change my mind but obviously will make me more comfortable and happier). I have gone through the forums, but was not able to get a clear answer to the questions. Here are my queries….:

1) I only have a SDTV (480i). I have tried to look for info regarding how games would look on it, and have got mixed views on it. Now, I know that the difference between HDTV and SDTV is huge, so im not comparing the two, but I do wanna know how the games look on a SDTV? Do they still look beautiful, as in, do they look much much better than PS2 graphics (specially compared to games like MGS3), since people say PS3 games on SDTV look like PS2 games. I have played games on a SDTV throughout, so am not yet spoilt by HDTV. Also, I heard that some games do not run well on SDTV. Is this true? Is there a list of what games do not run on SDTV?

2) Secondly, I have a MTNL internet connection with 256 kpbs unlimited D/L. I was wondering if this is good enough to play the games online? I have read posts telling that they have played with the same connection without any issues. But my concern is, whether FPS shooters play fine with this connection? I am planning to move to 516 kbps unlimited plan, but cannot move beyond that as then the Download Limit Cap comes into the picture, which gets risky. I am planning to buy Killzone 2 and am worried if I would be able to play it without lags?? Also, how frequently do lags happen in an online game?? Is it very bad or non-noticeable??

3) Thirdly, here in India, do we get all the games as soon as they release in, say, US or Europe or do we have to wait for months, like it used to be the case with PS2 games 2-3 years ago?

4) Is the 80GB model better (as in more reliable) than the 40GB one (apart from the controller and extra HDD)

5) Can you play online with anyone and everyone, or do you need to have friends beforehand (as none of my friends own a PS3)

6) Do you think we would be getting a Killzone 2 bundle, specially since Europe is getting one?

7) Does the Logitech Driving Force EX wheel, launched in India, work with all racing games (including motorstorm 2). I mean with all the functionalities like force feedback etc. Also are the worth it?? I mean do you really feel all the bumps and hits???

Thanks for taking time to read the post. I would be very greatful if anyone can answer the queries as it would help me with my decisions.

Welcome to GI

1. There is a huge difference between SDTV and HDTV(with the HDTV hooked with the HDMI cable).I wouldn't say it looks like the ps2 on SDTV(definitely better) cause i've played on both but HDTV with HDMI definitely looks awesome.

2.I think the 256kbps should be fine. Most of us use that speed only(at least I do) but let me warn you....MTNL disconnects occasionally...so if you are playing/downloading...you get a DNS error(i shifted from MTNL to sify because of this)....AND DONT EVER GET A CONNECTION WITH A DOWNLOAD LIMIT WITH YOUR PS3

3.We usually get games on time but sometimes games like Fallout 3 dont release officially in india. Even if the games come on time they usually are seen on the shelves of stores like planet m/crossword a little late. But you have IVG Offer for the really good games!!!

4.I dont think so....the basic machine is the same.

5.Friends are required only if you want to play with them.Otherwise you can play with anyone online.

6&7. I donno

Hope that helps!!!

1) i'll reply later

2) your connection will do,...

lags depend more upon the servers location and servers entirely...

also if the game has dedicated servers there will almost be no lag..

i have played r2 beta(dedicated server) with both 2mbps and 256kbps account and there was hardly any difference in lag. dont worry KZ2 will have dedicated servers

3)normally first-party games are released on day one in india... btew not all games are released in india and you would be willing to order from other foreign sites for game availability and cheaper $$$

4)reliability......nope both are same.....dont worry sony has a solid black beast.

suggestion:- get the 80gb bundles quickly you have an option of getting 1 of 2 latest games for free, though bundles are limited

5)na you dont need to have frnds......though you enjoy more with frnds.....

6) HPS this is for you

7) HPS this is also for you

Dude get the 80gb bundle, it more worth than the 40 gb bundle cause u get DS3 & R2 / MS PR game free with it.

its also been told that the 80gb model has improved Blu Ray drive

i got my 80gb Bundle a week back for 24.1k in bangalore

It looks the same on HDTV and SDTV as long as you use the composite cable. And dont worry....it still looks great !!!!

@DS.......It still looks great in comparison to the ps2 !!!!

:ranting:

But the ps3 is meant to be played on a HDTV with HDMI cable as Saha said.

So if possible get a HDTV.....

And pls dont buy the old ps3 models in store with the SIX AXIS....buy the ones with the DUALSHOCK 3

^^Lets make this clear angy

HDTV with HDMI is what ps3 is all about...especially with Killzone 2 coming

But SDTV is not bad...not bad at all.....so even if you have a SDTV dont take too much tension

Its like

HDTV+HDMI cable = 10/10

HDTV with composite cable=8/10

SDTV with composite cable=7.5 8/10

As regards the HD v/s SDTV query...yup it's awesome on an HDTV but that doesn't mean you won't enjoy the games on an SDTV irrespective of the game...however there is a slight problem with several games like Drakes Fortune where you really need to strain your eyes on an SDTV to look for small stuff like Ammo , guns , clues etc....otherwise the PS3 obviously downgrades/upscales it's output to match your monitor.

The 80 GB is the new kid on the block and I am pretty sure that it's been made with cheaper components than the 40 GB (which in turn was made with cheaper components than the original 60 GB). I am not sure if the 80 GB has any software emulation to allow PS2 games to be played on it.. ????Of course the other gee gaws (dualshock controller + Free Game) and the fact that the 40 GB s going to be gone pretty soon will force you to get the 80 GB which is hopefully an improved version of the 40GB.

If you have broadband (thats what we call a 256 kbps connection lol )you'll have no problem playing online ..

Games availability..well one never knows..usually the fast moving ones are always available within a month or two of their release abroad unless you're looking for some really esoteric stuff like Sid Meiers Civilization 3 etc...

Other points have been answered by more experienced gamer brothers I think...
