I_am_Legend
i think ps3 formatted hdd's are neither FAT nor NTFS.. so im wondering how a pc will identify the drive..
Joy
PC does detect the HDD, but won't show it because it is formatted in an unrecognized format. To get it to detect the HDD, go to Control Panel, then Administrative Tools, then Computer Management. In the new window click Disk management on the right in the bottom window, scroll down until you see a disk which is the same size as the ps3 hdd. Be careful not to select any drive or partition you have of a similar size! When you find it, right click it and format using NTFS. This will allow it to be seen by the PC. You can also use tools like Swiss Knife.. Joy

Hot-Drake-Pixel
I have a simillar situation but not with PS3 HDD. I had a Dell laptop(having windows 2000 professional) which crapped out on me. Its PSU is fried. I didnt get dell support as I purchased it from outside and all... long story. I need to recover the data in that HDD. I took it out and put it into a casing. My new laptop does recognise the hardware and says USB storage device connected but it doesn't show up as a drive in Explorer. How do I recover the data in that HDD?? Any help will be much appreciated. Let me know if the make and model of the HDD will be of any help.
AtheK
follow the same procedure as above and instead of formatting right click on it and selct change drive letter give it a new drive letter and it should show up
Joy
No recovery software will work unless the drive gets detected. Try it on all types on OS (XP , Vista and maybe even Linux if you have) , also what format is the HDD formatted on , FAT 32 or NTFS. I think if the HDD is formatted in FAT 32 and if it is larger than 10GB , Windows XP won't detect it , it has to be in NTFS for XP to detect.Try it in other OS and even XP and Vista 64bit if you have installed.. I was told that this HDD was master storage on your previous laptop and the current laptop already has one hence it wont detect another. Is there any master-slave thing with HDD's as well? I told that HDD's come with a switch which you can turn on and off to make it master or slave. i dint find any such thing in this HDD.
