I had the ring of death problem too. I called up MS and they said they would replace it in 10 days. 12 days later I called them back, they gave the number of some service center in chennai. I called those chaps up and they said I would get it in the next 4 days. Sure enough, I got a replacement console on the 4th day.

Speaking at a BMO Capital Markets conference on interactive entertainment, a Microsoft executive has pointed to the PlayStation 2 as highlighting the benefits of stretching the Xbox 360's lifespan beyond the "typical" (depending on who you ask) five years. "Look at the PS2; they've gone long-time and seem to have pretty good legs on what they are doing," said yes that's her real name Mindy Mount. "If we were able to do that, as CFO I think that's great, because every year you draw it out you increase profitability."

While the chief financial officer for Microsoft's entertainment division may see dollar signs in a longer lifespan, obnoxious and overly literal bloggers see the telltale red lights that signal many an individual system's inability to make it past five months, let alone five years.

ooh, this CFO doesnt seem to have all the numbers at hand, does he? :P

Microsoft Service "Sucks" Xbox 360 Boss Told

The head of the Microsoft Xbox operation in Australia, David Mclean, who is becoming famous for what he doesn’t say rather than what he does, is set to hear from yet another very “angry” Xbox 360 customer who is so angry with Mclean and his operation that he has packed up his second broken Xbox and shipped it directly to him with a letter that says: “Microsoft sucks you can keep your busted Xbox". He also said that he will never deal with Microsoft again.

Full story at the jump - read it, it's kinda funny and scary.

^^ This guy is a jerk-off. I really dont know what the hell he's talking about. Having been through the RRoD cycle myself, I can attest to the fact that it was painless and very prompt. Agreed, the call center chap seemed to be Filipino or something and couldn't speak very clearly, but this racist jerk should learn to accept the facts of global outsourcing and tried a wee bit harder to speak clearly instead of that horrible New Zealand accented English. And the reasons for XBLM restrictions are well known. Looks like Sunshine here just woke up from his LALA land daydream. Also some of his claims liek the US$ 50 charge are just bizarre.

^ granted things arent as bad here, but i remember when xbox support used to attend to queries within 24hrs and now the turnaround time is 10 days or something like that. imagine a year down the line (when an additional 20k units have been sold) what the state of affairs might be for indian gamers...

I have friends in the U.S. U.K. who talk about 5-10 day replacement periods for their RR0D'ed boxes. Even you got yours around the estimated time. So lets not kick the bird unnecessarily. M$ screwed up, owned up and are now paying up for it. And they are doing a pretty decent job. If one jerk fcuks himself over with his intolerance, he deserves it.

^ he is not the first or only p`ssed off 360 gamer to lash out against M$, and he wont be the last.

anyways, i hope m$ india can maintain their 10-day replacement timeline if/when they have to deal with a larger installed base (and i can attest that their turnaround time has worsened in 12months)
