WTF is Happenning with Indian Game Developers

I always thought that Indian Game developers would give other companies Run for there Money once they entered the Arena <_< . But why does every other company in India wanna make flash game or game that don't sound or look like games .

For what I am saying is there is a lot of Potential in our Market. And even with the Recession I think that doesn't stop us from Playing games and buying New ones.

And if anyone is thinking that in India, whenever Game Artists are called to do a Art work they always END up Drawing a f**king Cartoon  (Actually this is the reality I have witnessed it).

But I have seen couple of Artists do some amazing things with their Talent. And if you wanna see some truly spectacular Game Artwork check out cgtantra.

Indian game developers exist ? :exoticdance:

YES we do exist... :furious:

i know of mauj as a production which cud make gud games for console but yes they as only making games for mobile adn only for casual gamers

unfortunately this is the case not just with mauj

indians are good as it slaves, not making productive software lol.

:ranting: screw that... that's the problem with the whole IT field over here, all they wanna do is listen meekly to orders they r given... n thus the expectation on the whole lot is, as u so sadly put across, as IT slaves....

You guys need to remember that there are still good developers here. There are other software industries in India other than the IT service sector. I would say the reason as to why there is poor game development in India is that no one has taken a big initiative yet. A company whose soul bread and butter is to make games, that will be very hard to establish because they will have to compete with other games in the market. We need a consistant maker and not just a company which makes one game and be done with it.

Moreover we need gamers making games so that they know what gamers like. We need very good programmers and we need to keep them in India.

We all can help by purchasing legit copies of games so that entrepreneurs realize that the Indian gaming demand is sizeable and hopefully someone will take initiative.

btw

Dabba, you are in game development? If so maybe you can shed more light on this topic.

i waz in game dev in late 2005 - early 2006, the lure of bigger paychecks has got me in the dull segment now :exoticdance:

n as i said it's not only mauj that go the casual gamer/mobile phone way...

it will take one hellva investment to go ahead with console game dev

apart from the game idea... even the game engine costs a bomb.... even the older 1's :furious:

but things r looking up.. ever since EA moved into hyd.... sooner or later they mite just decide to go ahead with game development over here...... time will tell...

tell me, 1 software u use? which is made by an indian developer. bloody even chinese make mobile phone converter software.

Dude dont generalize. There may not be many Indian development companies that make products for individual users but there are corporations that make huge enterprise products. Don't forget that even products like MS Office, Windows, Photoshop have Indians behind them (although they are mostly based in US). I will agree with one thing, only 20-25% of Indian engineers are good.

+1 win to you. That is correct a lot of them work at international studios. It's not that Indian Game Devs are in a mess, it's the companies here *cough*FX*cough*Labs*cough* that are run by nitwits.

lol .

but do we really need a Indian game developing company to compete with all the big studios? (no offence meant)

i mean its not like a few ppl produce a game it takes over a 100 of them to do so. And among these ppl are indians, japs, americans, etc. who cares as long as the end product is satisfactory?

It is sad that Indian game devs, companies do not want to invest in gaming. It is getting popular is India slowly but not only USA, Japan other countries are far ahead of us. Hopefully some day Indians too will realize it :P

and yes lot of Indians do some small project for big companies and some Indians work for them too ...

+1 but brotha nowadays the cost of producing a game for the next gen consoles is quite huge as dabba said.

and india doesnt have the same gaming culture as the US so maybe as time passes by Indian game developers will make it big in the industry.

^In my opinion we need Indian developers and not just for games. It would bring money into the country and probably games made in India would be sold cheaper here. And personally I am sick of playing as an American saving the world, I would love to play as an Indian character just for once with awesome gameplay.

+ there is no harm in bringing a little R&D here (that is the most important part IMO)

Not plenty, but a few. See game credits and you will realize the ratio.
Bro, its doesn't ends at the credits section. There are a lot more Indians working at international studios and as well as at centers in India which receive work outsourced for major titles/platforms.

Edit:

tell me, 1 software u use? which is made by an indian developer. bloody even chinese make mobile phone converter software.
Bro, the platform on which you are writing, the hardware which you are using, the OS which you are running, all the apps which are opened in the background, for their development they all have demanded Indian fingers to be bashed on keyboards for hours.
