Karooo 206 Report post Posted August 15, 2009 (edited) RAGE will run at 60fps on the PS3. id Software has reiterated that the PS3 version of Rage will run at 60 frames-per-second when it launches. "Everything is designed as a 60Hz game. We expect this to be 60Hz on every supported platform," id's John Carmack told Edge after an article in the latest issue observed that the PS3 version was currently lagging behind in performance terms. Whoever writes the Rage Twitter account added: "The Edge Magazine article has caused quite a ruckus. We are committed to ensuring that gamers on all platforms have a great Rage experience." Which isn't the same as saying that each version will perform the same, but keen observers of id's comments on id Tech 5, which powers Rage, will know that Carmack and others believe it's possible to achieve equal performance. "Because of the way the technology works, it is really platform agnostic, which means Mac, PC, 360, PS3, so you don't have to have console hate if you're a PC player because we're focusing on the console, and if you're a console owner you don't have to wish that your version was as good as the PC because the technology does all that stuff," id boss Todd Hollenshead explained as far back as QuakeCon 2007. At that time, Carmack also said that Rage was lagging behind on PS3, but he was confident that the team would make up the difference and apparently remains so. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/carmack-...ll-run-at-60fps Edited August 15, 2009 by [email protected]
Aftrunner 2050 Report post Posted August 15, 2009 Sounds like damage control. They can (and probably will) get the PS3 to perform the same as the Xbox but I bet the harm is already done. Also 60Hz does not mean 60 FPS.
Karooo 206 Report post Posted August 15, 2009 (edited) but anyways rage will be an awesome game, very much impressed with the screenies till now Edited August 15, 2009 by [email protected]
praveer 83 Report post Posted August 15, 2009 (edited) Also 60Hz does not mean 60 FPS. For Carmack..it does. FPS isnt technically the correct term, Hz is...& Carmack always prefers to be spot on. He never uses the term FPS. And no need to worry...the PS3 ver. will be 60FPS when it launches. PC guys too should not worry about anything..the game doesnt looks heavy on hardware, anyone who can play an Unreal Engine 3 game smoothly should be able to run this even more smoothly. [as UE3 games are 30FPS on consoles while this is going to be a 60FPS game so better performance is expected] Personally I'm happy with the way game looks [considering its running on 60FPS] I'm more interested in seeing how it plays coz TBH all ID games are awesome on tech side & a bit avg. on gameplay side. And if anyone of you want the full 720p 60FPS encode of the newest trailer here it is: http://gamersyde.com/download_rage_trailer...9-12398_en.html Edited August 15, 2009 by Praveer

Also 60Hz does not mean 60 FPS. hz is the frequency in times per second, and fps is the frames per second. so basically both are same things. Hz = frequency in times per second, so fps directly converts to Hz and vice versa. (e.g. 100Hz is 100fps). Dont always go by the comments people make below the article Edited August 15, 2009 by [email protected]
praveer 83 Report post Posted August 15, 2009 ^ There are cases though where you have a 60hz game but the actual FPS is 30FPS [ala Gears of War 2] But still technically hz & FPS should be the same thing.

Thats the point I am trying to make. Hz and FPS are two completely different things. Or rather can be used to express two different things. praveer 83 Report post Posted August 15, 2009 Thats the point I am trying to make. Hz and FPS are two completely different things. But as I said..Carmack doesnt takes them as different, He has always mentioned FPS as Hz. And these two things are different but yet are same things. I mean its like a "khota Sikka" lol Dono side se ek hi cheez hai but only one side is the real deal while the other is a copy...the problem is you dont know which side is a copy & which is real. playstation 1589 Report post Posted May 5, 2010 id Software released a new batch of screens from its upcoming FPS. Zoom Tuesday id Software released a new batch of screenshots from the upcoming FPS for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Rage. Although the game was originally announced back in 2007, Rage may or may not hit retail stores by the end of the year--it's believed that it may not see a release until next year. Until then, we'll have to endure the random teases id dishes out. Destructoid reports that id Software whipped out the latest build during last month's Bethesda Softworks press event. Apparently this was the first time anyone had seen a console version, as previous demos typically used the PC version of Rage (can't say "port," as that's not the case). But no matter the platform, id's Tim Willits promises that id Tech 5 will offer true cross-platform technology. When asked about the PlayStation 3 version, Willits said that the PS3 demo was definitely an option for the event, but he opted for the Xbox 360 instead. "Our program director actually said 'Do you want to take the PS3? I think it's actually running better,'" he said. source
Aftrunner 2050 Report post Posted May 5, 2010 (edited) Why is it that in every screenshot I have seen so far its just some melee guy charging you with a melee weapon? I hope its not gonna be one of those games. Edit Saw Hi res version of those screenshots. Honestly not impressed. Looks like Borderlands with worse art direction and better textures. :| Edited May 5, 2010 by Aftrunner
spindoctor 484 Report post Posted May 5, 2010 yep, the game looks a lot like borderlands without the cel shading. too much like it, in fact, which is a bit worrying. but meh, it's from id software which equals automatic purchase for me.
Nemo 1032 Report post Posted May 5, 2010 strong borderlands vibes for sure. i hope its better than borderlands though. it was a good game but got repetitive and sp was monotonous as i was never a fan of grinding and loot. i want this to have a story and a well fleshed out sp. ign's preview they have some nice comments. Tyler 568 Report post Posted May 5, 2010 LOL non-cel-shaded Borderlands was my first reaction as well. But I'm sure this game won't have RPG-like leveling up :\ But it's id! So I've never been a fan of the realistic shooters that the kids seem to love these days.
