Fire in the hole --- Airtel's Fair Usage Policy

when is this starting...if its already started then im not getting affected because my speeds were the same as always when i was downloading a graphic novel

The tremendous amount of outcry at the India Broadband Forum has forced Airtel to give the original speeds back to the subscribers. It is being said that they're now going to start sending out letters to their subscribers so as to inform them about the Fair Usage Policy before they actually start putting it into action.

Also, if you head over to their Broadband Tariffs page, you'll not be able to find the 512kbps and 1MBps UL plans, since they've removed them.

Nice little imaginative theory there buddy.

You are just forgetting the about 85 percent of the piracy is over the counter fake stuff. Not downloaded. So those 15 percent will simply move to over the counter stuff.

Just a side note. What makes you think the lack of piracy will actually drive original material costs down?

Err... If original games etc get sold out faster newer versions that come are generally cheaper.Like orange box is 20 dollars in US now but its still same freakin 2000 here

You, sir, are one of a kind..

We, mere mortals are no match for your love towards the selfless, non profit, good for all companies like Sony, Paramount etc along with the Godly MPAA & RIAA..

Infact, you, sir, don't belong to this Earth.. You are way beyond us..

Your Highness, you need a better place..

With all due respect, may this be it..

PLANET OF THE....EVOLVED

planet_of_the_apes_ver1.jpg

U see, your majesty that the picture even states the motto of MPAA & RIAA --> Rule the Planet.. I think its totally alright when they together sued various individuals for playing music on the street as everybody on the streets was able to listen to the music & their oh-so-hard earned money was lost ( as people would have bought the music cds otherwise).. I also think they were absolutely right when hey decided to sue small school going horrific idiotic good-for-nothing children when they used to watch children movies or cartoons at school as obviously they wouldnt purchase the same dvds for home viewing & their money was lost..

Oh i hail u your majesty.. U end our sorrows..!!

As for Airtel, you are right. Why should we be getting Unlimited downloads.. we are leechers.. we destroy industries.. we rip off the good-for-all companies of their hard earned money.. even though their CEOs earn 10 times more than we do... You are right..

You, sir, are a retard !!

Thank you for realizing my greatness .And next time try and counter the arguments rather than insult the writer. Opinions of people differ and if I wouldnt agree with you I will try to counter you not act cool and spew insults like a kid

a) I am on VPN most of the day - even if I just check my office mail and work I still end up around 1/2 gig per day. That's 15 gig per month.

b ) game demos - each is around 1.5 gigs - download a few and that's it

c ) stream all the hidef videos for my fav tv shows (since I vpn into US I can see them legally) - those are huge

i don't have to download games to hit the limit. this sucks.

and I suppose the other providers will start moving soon - maybe not BSNL - but definitely the others.

"Basic" online play almost maxes out my 512 Kbps connection. Thats 30 kbps easy. Almost 100MB per hour. Its a miracle you played 120+ hours a month in under 2 GBs.

Nevermind patches and demo all that.

Buddy the only problem is that you arent realizing what you are agreeing too..

When online, people do a no. of activities like play games (MP.. which take up more than 1 GB IMO..), stream media (HD now) , download legitimate games ( ex: Steam, Xbox Live, PSN etc.) etc.. Heck, some people like to host or store many of their files online ( ex: MS Skydrive etc.) which would take up plenty of bandwidth.. (dont forget its both ways i.e. upload & download..) So even on a decent 256 kbps connection, u will outrun your limit...

They have been giving unlimited bandwidth before which got them more & more subscribers.. now out of pure greed, they are cribbing your bandwidth for no reason at all.. If they could have afforded it before i.e. when Broadband in India wasnt exactly booming, they can afford it more now as the no. of subscribers have only increased.. its more money or them..

Its pure cheating..

Remember its not a one time investment, you will have to pay over & over..

Next they will block out specific sites.. & Dont say torrents re bad.. many free media (like music, movies etc.), distros ( linux etc.) are hosted online for downloading.. Downloading even 5 of the most popular distros just for the heck of trying them out will finish off your limit like anything..

I am not promoting piracy, but at least give us what we pay for..

ISPs talk about making India a connected country, but this greediness wont take our country to that level..

Actually it used to max out my net too but when i used to check the usage it wasnt all that much.Do one thing check the usage next time after playing for an hour.If it exceeds 50 mb then IDK how I got by but I easily used to play 4-5 hours daily with a 2 gig cap.Infact these days I play online, watch youtube videos, download hd game videos from GT,download demos and my usage doesnt go beyond 10 gigs

Ya well if you put out your argument like this before I would have admitted I was wrong. Insulting people over the net just because their opinion is different doesnt make you a hero

This is so far beyond stupid. The "usage" it showed you was for download only. NOT ALL DATA TRAFFIC. Oh and BTW the cap includes upload in your traffic as well.

You want to be holier than thou go right ahead. But you have no right to label everyone who wants bandwidth and thinks this is a bad move a filthy pirate. Esp when you accept the fact that you pirate as well. There are no two ways here either you dont pirate or you do (in which case get the f**k off your high horse).

Just for the record most of my bandwidth is used for TV shows.
