(A)Kira
Hey guys, sorry to give this thread an epic bump but i found this thread when i was googling, and I am planning on buying a fightstick/pad. I usually play Street fighter, KOF 13 and Tekken. Can you guys recommend any? Nothing overly expensive though.
omgitsnewton
Hey guys, sorry to give this thread an epic bump but i found this thread when i was googling, and I am planning on buying a fightstick/pad. I usually play Street fighter, KOF 13 and Tekken. Can you guys recommend any? Nothing overly expensive though. Hey, I hope I'm not late, but here's a bunch of options I feel are the best. 1. Qanba Q4 RAF (Rs 8400 + shipping, Play Asia) This is without a doubt the best stick I've seen/used in a while. The stick has has basically everything you'd expect from a standard MadCatz TE - Sanwa buttons and JLF out of the box (including the shaft), heavy enough to endure any and all shocks, felt base, button lock to avoid pressing the PS/Start button accidentally, separate cabin for the loooooong cable etc. Also unlike MadCatz it is dual modded, so you can use it with a PS3, XBox 360 and a PC. Shipping isn't an issue coz they ship from China; a friend of mine got it ordered from Play Asia with no hitches or issues. If the start button on the face bothers you, you can go for an Eightarc Fusion which is basically the same stick except the start button is on the side, and it ships from the USA. 2. IST MakeStick Pro (Rs 6000 + Shipping, GMarket English website) Another good option if you're on a budget and can manage to go around their Korean only website. It has the basics of a fightstick - you can opt for Sanwa or crown buttons, and a Taeyoung or Crown Fanta lever (good for Tekken). Has a good weight to it, but the overall build quality is okay-ish. Not dual modded, so make sure you buy the stick for whatever platform you want to play on. Payment on the website may have some problems but shipping happens without a hitch. Read a first hand review here - http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=125764 3. eTokki Omni Arcade Stick (Rs 11,800 + shipping, eTokki store) While I haven't used it or seen it firsthand, it seems to be getting praise almost everywhere I see online. You have options to get either a Sanwa JLF with Sanwa buttons or a Myoungshin Fanta with Crown buttons, though you can easily mount just about anything on the faceplate. Has rubber feet and a 3m cable. Dual modded as well, so you can use it on PS3, XBox 360 or a PC. Shipping is easy and fast. A bit expensive, but worth it I assume. There are more options, but these three are the best for importing as of now.
(A)Kira
Thanks for the suggestion bro But now I'm focusing on building one instead. I'm sifting through a lot of guides right now, and I've got a grasp of it, but i'm having a hard time finding buttons and sticks. Going to start building the case soon anyhow, will get the components somehow.
omgitsnewton
I won't recommend building one unless you can manage to find a skilled carpenter/crafter that can make a very VERY solid base. If you do end up making one, pick the PCB wisely, as it can make a lotta difference. Also, look through SlagCoin, they have a hefty database on layouts, sizes, instruments needed, instructions etc.
(A)Kira
I read slagcoin everyday Now looking at some threads over at shoryuken The base is easy enough to make with a simplistic and solid design, I'm basing mine on the detailed build (the white one with its own page) on the website. I was considering a PS2 pcb since it could be done without soldering, but I've come to see that soldering is a much better option and am deciding on some third party controller. I'll test the pcb to see the mapping on it, but the main problem right now is where to buy the buttons and stick. It doesn't have to be sanwa or seimatsu, even Happ or any other brand will do just to get an idea. Also what are the differences between a ball top and the normal one, or is it just a matter of preference?
omgitsnewton
The shaft's handle doesn't really matter, you can screw in any kind you want. It's mainly the gate and the spring/rubber stiffness that matters. Japanese sticks usually have a ball top (like the Qanba) and are pretty loose, and there's a square gate inside so you can feel the corners. Korean sticks have a bat top (like the IST stick above), are much stiffer and have a circle gate beneath, so you have more control over the diagonals. The general consensus is that Korean is better for Tekken where you need control over what direction you're pressing, and Japanese is better for 2D games where you're either doing f~b~f~b etc for footsies or jumping around, but end of the day its upto you. Do post your progress with the stick though, I've been planning to switch to stick too, and if the results are good I'll probably get a custom too! Shadoken
Beelzebub just buy one ... trust me building one is a pain -__- ... might as well build an arcade cabinet while ur at it lol If you guys play Street Fighter or even tekken , you might wanna join this group .. https://www.facebook.com/groups/152009058233031/?fref=ts Most people on there use sticks , you can ask them depending on city if it is available locally. or used ones..etc I have a bunch of Hori/MCZ Fight sticks lying around that I won from tourneys , I sold some of them for pretty cheap here last time I came to india. Srsly paying 9k for sticks here is just ridiculous lol.
(A)Kira
I found a guy selling this bundle- http://cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171062026847 When i contacted him he told me that the buttons and stick aren't sanwa but a product of his own company. The stick is also 4/8 way and only the ball top is sanwa. I think this is a pretty good deal considering 8 sanwa buttons are about 20 dollars and a stick is 23 dollars. Plus this guy is including a PCB so that saved me a hassle. And i can always upgrade the buttons and stick after I have the arcade stick working if I want to. Shadoken
So you will buy the buttons and stick then spend some more money on making the stick.... overall even if you spend 3k or something , you might as well spend 4k and get a used one. which atleast uses Sanwa parts. Trust me other ones apart from Sanwa/Seimitsu are bad , even hori doesnt make good ones. Edit - Is he giving that metal plate thing as well? pretty good deal if thats the case then. (A)Kira
I don't think hes offering the metal plate. And I haven't seen anyone sell a used sanwa/ seimitsu stick for 4k, only somewhere around 8-9 k.

(A)Kira
Wait Shado are you taking about this PCB- Yeah, he's offering it and its the main reason I'm going with this bundle. It saves me the trouble of stripping and mapping a controller. Also the soldering will be much easier. I can manage with slightly cheap buttons but i may just switch out the stick if need be later on.

(A)Kira
Will first get the hang of things and then go for the high-end stuff. I maybe going to singapore/ hong kong sometime next year or the next, so i can pick it up then instead of paying those crazy shipping prices and customs. omgitsnewton
Shadoken, I have a question about modding. I just obtained a Round 2 TE for 6k and I want to dual mod it now. Sadly every PCB I looked at is not compatible with it coz the stick is last gen now. Can you suggest what PCB to use? (A)Kira
I ordered that deal from ebay, now for the wait. Also what are the pros vs cons of 6 button as opposed to 8 button config?
