Should I get the 8 Gb MSPD ?

Hi there guys,

I recently sold my fat PSP with the Original Sony 4 Gb MSPD at a very very good price ;) Now I intend to buy a PSP Slim, which am gonna get tomorrow or day after tomorrow :P

I was browsing through www.play-asia.com and came to know that they are selling 8 Gb Sony MSPDs for $154 US. Now, previously I had bought my 4 Gb one from Alpha (Vile Parle) for around $110 US, and since I got the same exact price when I sold it :P, am thinking of investing the rather $40 US and buying an 8 Gb one altogether, which I think is totally worth it :D Also, free shipping to India makes it all the more awesome.

You guys think I should go ahead with this ?? Will I face any problems using it on my PSP Slim ?

Edit: Just wanna know whether it'll work properly in the slim PSP :hi2:

man whats the point of gettin a slim one if u already have a fat one? tv out? :-s

and u didnt even ask me before sellin the 4gb stick :D

Lol...am sorry dude but I sold it to my Mama (Maternal Uncle) :D and I got a really good price for it man. I got Rs. 8000 for my fat PSP and Rs. 4500 for the original 4 Gigs mem card, which equals down to Rs. 12500. Am sure nobody in this forums or anywhere would've given me this price. Would you ?

Also, I think its the perfect time to buy a slim. It ain't a mess to install a custom firmware on your slim. Its easy and you have to be really stupid to mess it up. The current status is that slims are coming in with 3.60 firmware and M33 doesn't actually install a whole new custom firmware onto it. It just simply replaces a few parts of the original 3.60. Now this thing won't run on slims coming in with the recently released 3.71, which is gonna happen pretty soon, and the M33 team have said it themselves that its gonna taken em quite a while to release a new CW.

Also, I've checked out all the pros and cons of this thing. First of all, I don't have to add a single penny from my own pocket to buy a slim or a 4 Gb Mem card. Second, am sure all of you guys know the features of a slim and I don't need to explain em anymore, but yeah...its a BETTER PSP than a fat one :)

Currently, not all homebrew can run on the fat one but the ones that do run are the ones am only interested in like the various emulators :D And am 100% sure the homebrew scene is gonna improve and it won't taken em long for developers to shift from default 1.50 to 2.XX. Its just a matter of time :)

Edit: Also, just so you guys know am not that interested in playing games on my TV. I have a PS2 for that :D Am interested in watching Divx movies that I convert to .mp4 on the TV. Currently, am using my PS2 for that, but yeah I know its gonna be interesting.

Also, just so you guys know, you CANNOT play PSP games on your TV if your TV doesn't support PROGRESSIVE SCAN. So make sure your TV does and then only go for it. My TV doesn't support progressive scan so games won't work in the first place :P but movies don't require it :)

Anyways, I just know am heading in the right direction :)

you've done your homework. and yes, if i could exchange my psp1k for a psp2k for no extra cost, i'd jump at the offer as well - although im only interested in playing a handful of games on it; used to watch movies on it (but transcoding was a chore), and for a quick gaming fix (mostly nes/snes/neogeo buttom mashers), i NOW prefer to use my DS lite or my palm pda instead :D

The reason why its a mess to install the custom firmware on PSP Slim is because of the requirements..

(0-1-A) A "fat" PSP running firmware 1.50 or custom firmware, together with a non-el-cheapo battery.

(0-1-:D A "slim" PSP running firmware 3.60, it is NOT possible to install this on a higher firmware version!

(0-1-C) Memory Stick PRO duo, NOT a Memory Stick Duo, 64 MB should be fine, but must be 4 GB or less. (According to PROD, 4GB doesn't work at all, other people said that their 4GB did work)

(0-1-D) AC Adapter

Well, I've got quite a few friends who have a FAT PSP, and I've downgraded their PSPs without asking for a single penny. Am sure they wouldn't mind lending their PSPs to me for downgrading my slim :) In fact, I've already asked them and they are more than happy to do it. Also, a non-el-cheapo battery is not required coz you can use your regular PSP battery and revert it back to a normal one if you're smart enough to backup your battery's EEPROM :)

Thats why am gonna grab one as soon as possible :D Who knows what is in store with 3.71 slims...maybe an altered architecture altogether...

yeah. If i had PSP-1000, i wouldnt be selling it for PSP Slim because its not that worth. Besides its a mess to run the custom firmware on the new PSP Slim.

There is no such mess in upgrading the PSP Slim's firmware. I just upgraded mine from 3.6 to 3.72 and it was smooth like butter.

FYI- 3.72 is required for remote plan from PS3.

6.5k is not cheap...if it being sold in india, its probably cheaper...the 2GB and 4GB ones are cheaper here than on PA

in any case, if u do decide to buy off PA, dont forget to use the affiliates link ;)

peace

Yeah..will sure do that  Also, this thread was made by me WAY BACK two months or so ago. Now the prices of Official Sony India 4 Gb MSPD have dropped down to Rs. 3300 with warranty.

Also, they seem to have only the picture of an 8 Gb card but the actual card is not available for sale as yet :P Am sure its gonna come pretty soon and I do hope the prices will actually be lower than 6k playasia price
