Yeah I have converted many mkv files to mpg , with a software mkv2vob , plays great on ps3 , u just have to mux it , no transcoding or anything , it just needs to change the audio from AVC.. or DTS to AC3. , it hardly takes a couple of minutes to convert mkv files to mpg or vob with this awesome app.... :giggle:

Ok.I tried this.

I have a Righteous Kill in .avi format.Size just 698 MB............The quality is strictly OK on my PC.......

But wow wow wow wow!!!I copied it to my Ps3 and the quality's just awesome......As good as an original DVD.....I don't know what the PS3 does but whatever it is.It does brilliantly.........Try playing a Xvid,Divx on the PS3 and you'll never play them on your PC again........

If there is so much of difference then it could mean that your PC sucks or you arent using the right playback software and configuration.

^^I think it's the former..I am currently on a 3.2Ghz Pentium 4 processor with a 19'' 1024*768 screen.....I use VLC for playback and my gfx card is an ATI Radeon X300Se.........5 years old............!!

But I am changing my PC soon so maybe won't face this prob anymore............!!

a 32'' Samsung 1366*768 LCD via HDMI.

Lets play Sherlock holmes and see if we can solve the mystery of the magical picture quality. On one hand we have a 19" TN panel LCD. On the other hand we have a 32" Samsung TV. Now I wonder what could be the cause of this magical picture quality. Could it be the superior size, resolution and panel of the TV or the magical PS3.

Lets see if Dr Watson can help us with this. MT what say you?

No you cant stream movies off the pen drive or DVD. You need a PC.

Dont worry its just the original posters brain trying to convince itself that its worth spending 25k to play divx files on your TV.

And yes, if you connect your PC direct to the LCD you get the same quality. Its the same pixels being spread the same way on the same screen. No differance.

Blu ray on the other hand though. Sex for the eyes.

I guess some of us here do agree avi files somehow look better on an HDTV via an hdmi cable. Try it out, u might just become a believer

Of course they do. This has nothing at all to do with the PS3 though. Get any upscaling DVD/Divx player with HDMI/Component out, the WD media player, an Xbox via Component/VGA/HDMI, a PC with VGA or HDMI and you are still getting the same quality.

And just so that you know. I have tried/seen all the above methods with almost all kinds of rips and the biggest factor is your LCD panel. That is it. So yeah, I reiterate "Dumb thread idea".

The first part of your post above showed some light, the latter half destroyed it.

You hit the nail on the head with the upscaling part. And yes maybe standalone DVD players do it too. That's what we all have been getting to.

About the necessity of the thread, discussions are what Internet forums are all about. We all share knowledge and gain some. I doubt anyone found this thread "dumb" :) infact seems many learnt about streaming over wifi in the process. So there you go Einstein :exoticdance: it's funny how people become so judgemental sitting behind a monitor armed with a mouse!!

Yes u can play these movies from external HDD , pendrive or DVD's , just put the converted file inside a folder VIDEO in case of pendrive and external HDD, and u r good to go... :exoticdance:

I will tell you this.. . Its merely your perception. Movies depend on a lot of factors [ XVID's, BR Rips etc]..right from the video quality involving resolutions to higher video bit-rate to the screen on which you are watching [ Not applicable to Retail stuff like DVD,BR etc].

OT : Nothing can beat LED screens imo :exoticdance:

Jeez I feel bad that you were dumb enough to think a PS3 made your Divx files magically look like Hi def. Don't worry though, spend some time googling commonly known stuff and you will almost be of mediocre intelligence soon.

And just cause someone derailed your thread with conversations on wifi streaming/format conversion doesnt make the thread a bright idea.

Kthxbye.
