Jigsaw
Absolutely lastavenger. I agree. My Pc is relatively low-specced hence the zameen-aasmaan ka farak! But the Pc is connected to the same HDTV in question. I'm not complaining though. The ps3, perception or not, will HAVE to be my movie machine

Hot-Drake-Pixel
Of course they do. This has nothing at all to do with the PS3 though. Get any upscaling DVD/Divx player with HDMI/Component out, the WD media player, an Xbox via Component/VGA/HDMI, a PC with VGA or HDMI and you are still getting the same quality. And just so that you know. I have tried/seen all the above methods with almost all kinds of rips and the biggest factor is your LCD panel. That is it. So yeah, I reiterate "Dumb thread idea". Wrong. PS3 is one of the best upscaller out there. Even better than some of the dedicated blu-ray player cum upscaler. My LG dvd player cum upscaler with HDMI output is far inferior compared to PS3's quality. Simillarly my x360 is no match to PS3's superior upscalling. it not my perception but hands on experience. Gautam13
To those who seem to think upscaling is merely spreading of the pixels over a larger area, you`ll should really do some research. There are numerous upscaling techniques requiring various degrees of computing power. Ever heard of Deinterlacing?? To suggest that a standard upscaling DVD/Blu-Ray player can produce the same upscaling quality as a PS3 is sheer ignorance. Those players wont possess 5% of the computing power that a PS3 has, it can never match the quality of the PS3 upscaling. But to suggest that PCs are not capable of the same quality is also incorrect , Both Ati and nVidia have dedicated upscaling technologies built into their newer cards, but to really get the most of your pc, you need to use FFDShow/Media Player Classic ( Not VLC ). But the problem with that is there are hours of fiddling around required to get the most out of it and not to mention complicated codec installations. Its because of these reasons that personally I watch my movies on my PS3. I have a fairly powerful computer ( C2D 3.0 ghz , Ati 4870 , 4 gb ram ) and i can safely say that whoever says VLC produces the same quality a PS3 has either not tried it or is simply to biased to admit the obvious. AngerSmash
I put an avi from my computer onto the ps3.... and it looked simply awesome on the ps3. Tried the same with few other movies in avi format and they all look wayy better on the ps3. What exactly does the ps3 do?? upscale??I have a retarded amd3200 pc with no graphics card... is that why?? Secondly this is noobish, but how do u guys transfer media from your computer to the ps3? I do it in a clunky way... first put the stuff on an ipod and then connect the ipod to the ps3 and copy over. Ps3 upscales a video and thus video looks great.
