hi. welcome to the forums.. i am on the same plan as u mentioned and i ve been using PSN on it for some time now. there isn't much lag on it esp if u play on UK servers. there is some what more lag on US servers. anyways i have been facing a weird issue lately. i keep on getting signed out of Playstation Network and sometimes i m not able to log in doe to some lame DNS error. i dont know if this error has sth to do with my PS3 or my ISP. so do confirm if other ppl also have this problem before u get this connection. for net surfing and downloading anything, this plan is awesome.. hope this helps.

BSNL's DNS has issues, manually set DNS on your PS3 to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

I'm using the 256k UL plan without issues.

No, it will not effect your PC. But in fact you can try changing it on your PC too because I presume you also get page not found errors sometimes.

I suggest not to change the DNS, I'm happy with the default DNS, BSNL connects to.

@vbhoj, you have too much lag bro. Yesterday, I sprayed all the bullets that I had on you and still, it took you around 8-9 seconds to die :(

The OpenDNS servers are slow IMO, only good for surfing through the internet. They're not meant for gaming

This constant disconnection thing used to happen to me long back :( I used to restart the router and it all got fine. You too try that and see

Bro, I was lagging because I wanted you guys to kill me less. :P

Besides, DNS has nothing to do with lag, it only resolves domain names to IP addresses. Thus a bad DNS name will result in not getting connected and server not found issues. On the other hand, lag is an issue of bandwidth. If you would recall, when you watch CNBCtv18 through moneycontrol.com sometimes the picture quality is good and at other its very soft for you to really read the ticker line. This is a perfect example of insuffecient bandwidth. Since broadband does not work on committed rate, the bandwidth generally varies. As per my understanding goes, 256k UL is good to play games, its only when you play KZ2 and you are the host then I think you also send sync data to other parties.

Since the upload speed is half of download, its generally 120k for a 256k connection, thus maybe I was not able to sync other clients properly because of the upload speed crunch. I think if someone who has a higher bandwidth joins the game 1st, then it should solve the KZ2 lag issue. (note this is all based hypothetical assumption of the host being used to sync other clients which may be incorrect too). I've generally based this assumption of more ppl complaining about the lag if a lower bandwidth player joins the game first.

Coming back to the DNS issue, I'm using openDNS since maybe few years, dont really recall and never had any issues. It also protects you from visiting sites that can harm your PC by warning you 1st on your browser before loading the site.
