Phoenix Wright
Whats all the complain about the game being linear anyway. I mean, aren't almost all the jrpgs linear? Also, it's not like the previous FFs had ridiculously memorable side-quests or random towns. I mean, f**k sidequests. XIII is reportedly 60 hours long with a great storyline. Why would I give a flying rats' arse about sidequests? EDIT: I realize 'linear' could also mean lack of freedom in choosing party members and what not, but that's not what most people are whining about. shockwave
Whats all the complain about the game being linear anyway. I mean, aren't almost all the jrpgs linear? Not entirely, so yeah it affects those who are used to it. But then the game was received very well in Japan when they should be the ones complaining the most. Karooo
@Shocky Digital foundry says native 720p for PS3 and confirmed in beyond3d as well. SE have worked very hard on this game, It's sad to see the game getting torn apart because it's linear and has no towns blah blah.
Karooo
Final Fantasy XIII Cross-Platform Test: Which Version Looks Better? Last night I finally had the opportunity to sit down and compare the two different versions of Final Fantasy XIII -- PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 -- side-by-side. It was an eye-opening experience, to say the least. This wasn't the first time I'd gone hands-on with the 360 version, of course; I've seen it in action a few times in the past couple of months. In fact, I had good things to say about it after trying it on the FFXIII Party Bus. My initial impression was that there's no appreciable difference between the two versions. It turns out I was really quite wrong -- but at the same time, I was kind of right. My biggest concern going into the 360 version was that it would suffer from technical defects that would affect its playability, as in the PS3 version of Bayonetta. When a game sputters and chugs, as so often happens with cross-platform ports, it ceases to be fun. And the nice thing about FFXIII on 360 is that its combat is every bit as smooth as on PS3. Everything flows the same, the feedback is just as responsive, and all in all battles play out just as well as on PlayStation 3. Until last night, though, I hadn't yet seen the 360 version outside of combat and exploration (well, "exploration"). And that's where the real problems begin. Once you see a cutscene, any doubt is instantly erased: The PS3 version is by far the better-looking rendition of FFXIII. I don't mind that the 360 version is a little softer around the edges and that its color is less saturated, because that's just how the system renders graphics. What does bother me is that what appear to be in-engine cutscenes on PS3 are streamed as video on 360, and they look (and sound) pretty bad. There are all kinds of compression artifacts, and the audio sounds hollow. It's still an impressive-looking game, no question, but when I went back from 360 to PS3 it was almost like someone had stripped a layer of grime off my TV. The PS3 version is just that much crisper and more colorful. Since Square had only showed off the good portion of the 360 version -- namely, its combat -- this drop in cutscene fidelity is a surprise, not to mention a disappointment. That being said, my review score holds true for both versions of the game, because I make a habit of reviewing games, not technology. Unless tech issues affect gameplay, I really don't care; in this case, the overall experience is equal on both platforms. (Unless rumors of malfunctioning third discs are true, that is....) If I'd never played the PS3 version, I'd be perfectly content with the 360 edition. So, there's no need to stoke the flames of fanboyism with split scores. FFXIII is a good game regardless of its platform. Personally, though, I'm opting for the PS3 version now that I'm spoiled by its shiny goodness. http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=9022412
shockwave
@Shocky Digital foundry says native 720p for PS3 and confirmed in beyond3d as well. 720p for the game and 1080p for the CGI Cutscenes right? Then the review was flawed. That's a huge error in writing IMO. Anyway, it's PS3 version for me for sure. The way it's meant to be played.

KeezNah
Do you guys think FFXIII will be in stores across India? Seeing how no other FF games are really popular here in the first place? It will be officially released here, thanks greatly to Square-Enix acquiring Eidos. Many online retailers here are already taking pre-orders for both versions. There are some other FF games released here as well, though only recently. Crisis Core and FFXII, iirc.

Aftrunner
Probably never. LOL what would I do with a JRPG? If I have money to burn I might pick it up some months down the line. If it was really cheap on the TP, like 500 bucks or so. And if I had nothing else to play. And if the seller threw in Kirsten Dunst with the game to sweeten the deal.
