no,there is minimal risk of DG'ing ur PSP and if it gets messed up,its mostly due to human error,if a noob like me can DG it in 10 mins flat, then anyone can do it...tension mat le MT!!

This is exactly what happened to my cousin's PSP and since he didn't know about those options in the recovery menu, he freaked out :P

Good to see you got everything working :wallbash: Hey, I would recommend you to install the fourth update to 3.71 M33, which will update your PSP to 3.71 M33-4, which has got a few VSH Menu bug fixes too :)

You can get it from here :)

First off, a quick question. Does anyone here have a Slim PSP and has it DGed via a Pandora battery? One of my friends in Mumbai went along with Snake today to get a fat PSP, and after telling him to look for a N or lower firmware indicator on the box, they were unable to find one. I told him to get a Slim one and DG with the C+D tools but he's reluctant to open the battery up and tear the leads out coz he's never done anything like this before. If anyone has a Pandora battery in Mumbai, it'd be great to help him DG it.

Yes it does. Btw, just found out, I don't know if you guys have tried it or not, but with M33's debug menu, you can swap the 'O' and 'X' buttons for enter. I just changed mine to O and then back to X again.

Yup, this has been around since the OE CFW days and in fact, it was the first thing I did, switching my Jap PSP-1000's default Enter key from O to X. Boy, that was driving me mad!

I better hold off on modding mine for a while.

Dude, trust me on this one. It's like you're stuck driving a F1 car at 20 mph. on the safe side of the road. CFW opens the PSP up to a world of possibilities, everything from ripping your UMDs to carry two or more games with you at once, playing all your oldies on emulators or installing a thousand and one homebrew apps fantastic enough for you to spit in the eyes of someone who spent half their fortune getting a smartphone for all its nifty features.

It's really easy to DG your PSP, and unlike before, even if something goes drastically wrong in the process, its quite easy to bounce back. I had the most detailed downgrader guide written at our earlier FreeForums place, but I don't think I migrated that one over. I'll dig it up and send it over to you if you need help.

^^ Thanks for the confidence boost.

I have a Slim PSP. I spoke to a few chaps here in Mumbai and they claimed they aren't equipped to mod a PSP that has a firmware higher than 3.50. Mine is 3.71 (Sony tricked me with their PS Store for PC ).

If you have a detailed guide on how to go about modding a PSP such as mine, I'll be highly obliged if you can pass it on. :(

P.S. : I want to mod mine mainly to play UMDs from different regions. Am not planning on playing "non-UMD" games on it. Another reason for modding it is to swap the "X" and "O" buttons :(

simply get ur PSP modded and download it off the torrents. i am currently playing this game and it is f**king awesome. the story is gr8 just like any other MGS game and the gameplay is superaddictive and good to hear the old Snake's voice by David Hayter.. Sony doesn't release many games in India. u know that and can't possibly rely on UMD's....

U dont need a fat PSP to do CFW updates, make sure u have a full charge and ur set!!

well i m gonna do it myself soon. hey do we have to format mem stick before updating?

No you don't. Just read the readme file that comes with that particular update. It'll tell you where to place the "update directory". You do that and run the updater in your PSP. The updater icon should become visible to you just like any other PSP game. Execute it and it shouldn't take more than a few seconds to do its job :ranting:

Yes. AFAICT, you need a modded PHAT PSP to perform the mod on a SLIM PSP.

Thanks, I'll check it out when I'm back in Mumbai

@MT: Dangnabbit, I assumed you already had a fat PSP, but oh well, you can get your system "converted" into using CFW as long as you are willing to sacrifice a battery. (Or if your soldering skills are good enough, you don't need to) Don't think the guys who usually downgrade the PSPs are aware of the new system to get to downgrade the newer FWs, which is basically the same as how you did it for FW3.03+-FW3.50, but shhh, you don't need to tell them that. :)

As for the PSP Store on the PC, I was first interested in it way back when the PSOne games started coming out for it, but then I realized I'd be damned if I was going to pay once again for my PSOne games, so I just started ripping my PS1 discs and then playing them on the custom POPStation FW. They already got my money once, I am not going to pay for them over and over again, spank you very much!

Anyways, coming back to the issue, the problem with the slim PSPs is that you can't really go below FW3.60, so what you get is a very basic FW1.50 subset rather than the full kernel that the fat PSP owners are so used to, which means that you will get cut out of quite a bit of the homebrew scene, which is, sadly, I would want every PSP owner to experience. There are so many cool homebrew apps that it breaks my heart to see Sony cut them out so ruthlessly. Oh well, at least they figured out people might want to play their PS1 titles and want to download PSP games digitally. Better late than never! But in your case, since you won't be DGed to FW1.50 but rather migrate straight to 3.71 CFW, it will work a little differently in your case.

And yes, you can technically switch to CFW on a slim PSP WITHOUT using a fat PSP on CFW. All you gotta do is dump everything you want from an unbricker and use that to create your magic MSPD. As long as you move the IPL right on the memory stick, it should work fine. Either which way you will come to know if your move worked if your MSPD Access / WLAN LEDs start flashing.

What you guys should really do is to arrange to get a jigkick battery from somewhere so that you can start the downgrading. In fact, if any of you are any good at soldering, you can even put in a lil' switch that will allow you to either restore the battery or put in a switch that can let you switch it between a regular and a Pandora battery. Since I see Kazekage Gaara on a slim PSP and FW3.71 M33-2, maybe he has a Pandora battery in Mumbai and can help you guys out, without you having to run around and take the risk of cutting out the wrong lead on the battery or worse, damaging the PCB by accident.

Just remember, if you guys want to do it yourself, try not to get a new battery pack from the shelves and try turning that into a Pandora battery. Get that as a replacement and for best results, use the battery that came with your system that is not "Pandora-proofed". Snake, keep this in mind if you are helping Jay get a battery to do the whole operation.

And Major? Major, I suppose, is another lurker like me here, goes by the name of Major-Minor everywhere. You probably know him better as Jay Patel, the 8600GT guy! :P

As for me, I am happily on my launch Jap PSP-1000 that I've put on CFW 3.40 OE-A and damned if I am going to upgrade to anything newer until it actually becomes necessary. 3.40 OE-A runs everything I want beautifully, thank you very much, Pandora-Wandora-Whatever!

Well, I don't have the pandora's battery with me anymore. I used one of my friend's downgraded fat PSP (which I helped downgrade) to downgrade my slim, and then I successfully reconverted his battery into a regular battery, so we both are all happy now :D

Well, I would recommend you to upgrade your fat PSP to 3.52 M33-4 as its by far THE BEST custom firmware for a FAT PSP to be on, mainly coz its got 100% NO-UMD compatibility, which means you don't need to keep any UMDs in your PSP to play any PSP game. Saves up on power consumption since the UMD drive is kept inactive :)

Also, as far as I know, 3.52 has got WAY BETTER PSone games compatibility too ;)

PS: In case you do decide to upgrade to 3.52 M33-4, then don't forget to select "Sony NP9660" in the "UMD Mode" in "Configuration" in the recovery menu for 100% NO-UMD compatibility :P
