^ thanks KG, i have a psp1k (launch, jap version) as well running cfw 3.4oe - as bender said, i'm pretty happy with it and didnt wanna upgrade unless necessary, but my umd drive is almost dead now (takes about 4-5 re-insertions for it to read my UMDs), so i guess 3.52 seems like a good bet.

U dont need a fat PSP to do CFW updates, make sure u have a full charge and ur set!!

well i m gonna do it myself soon. hey do we have to format mem stick before updating?

No you don't. Just read the readme file that comes with that particular update. It'll tell you where to place the "update directory". You do that and run the updater in your PSP. The updater icon should become visible to you just like any other PSP game. Execute it and it shouldn't take more than a few seconds to do its job :P

man i did as given in instructions that is i moved the .PBP file to PSP/GAME but i didn't get any icon in the games or anywhere else which i could click :cry5: . please help. and there are many other files too in the update that i've downloaded. what we have to do abt that? thanks!

Hackers believe new PSP model is in the works while working on new M33 firmware

"While working on the future 3.80M33, we found a VERY interesting string in the IPL's playload: "/kd/pspbtcnf_03g.bin"

For those who do not understand here is a bit of history:

since 2.71 and especially in 2.80, we could see a string refering to pspbtcnf_02g which suggested the support of a new hardware or at least of a new operative mode. Later with the slim release we found out that the slim's codename was this infamous 02g (proably standing for second generation) and that it used the _02g modules as well as pspbtcnf_02g

.bin. It means that they worked on slim firmware/kernel for months before the actual hardware was announced/released.

We believe it is the same with the 3rd generation hardware which they are now preparing for sure. Will it be yet another lighter (and pandora proof) psp or will it be the new psp phone ? Time will tell"

Hey guys, what is the point-of-no-return these days on the firmware scene? I'm currently on 3.03 I think (Fat PSP) and want to know the highest firmware I can get from where I could install the custom firmware using GTA:LCS.

If you wanna downgrade using an UNPATCHED VERSION of GTA:LCS, then I would recommend you to do it right now since your PSP is at 3.03 (as mentioned by you). First downgrade your PSP to 1.5, and then install 3.52 M33 and then install the fourth update and you're good to go :giggle:

Since you have a fat PSP, you can upgrade yours to 3.71 M33 just as Harashil did but you'll have to install a 1.50-kernel add-on for homebrew support, which is not a big deal :(

Also, Sony fixed the GTA:LCS "loophole" in their official firmware v3.50, so you can only downgrade a PSP that's got a firmware lower then that :(

Thanks for the reply mate. I guess I will upgrade to custom firmware as soon as I can get a larger memory stick. Do all Demos/Games etc work on the latest custom firmware? Also, how much space do full games consume? Would a 4GB memory stick suffice for songs, demos, some homebrew apps and games?

Thanks

Yes, a 4 Gb card should suffice :) But it all depends on what size of PSP games you put in it. Some PSP games which come in .CSO format are already compressed and ready to go can reduce the size of a standard PSP game drastically but overall I prefer downloading ISO rather than CSO just in case if the person who compressed it used a very high level of compression and f**ked up the game in the process (aka it won't even load or get stuck mid-game).

All in all a 4 Gb shouldn't give you any problems. If you can get your hands on an 8 Gb though, then it would be totally AWESOME :D

I think I'll go with a 4GB. Any idea on what it's price is in the US? Is a SanDisk memory stick fully compatible with the PSP? After flashing my PSP, I can also play GBA games etc on it too, right?

Cheers :)

^^ Yeah, a Sandisk card is fully compatible with the PSP. In fact many of the Sandisk boxes carry a sign saying "PSP compatible" which means they also have MagicGate. So you should be fine.

Yeah and they are a whole lot FASTER than official Sony ones :P and this is not bullshit. It's been proved ;)

If you wanna check out the American prices, then I would recommend you to make a search at Newegg :wOOtjumpy:

KG and other psp gurus, need some quick advice:

1) where in Mum can I get a PSP with CFW 3.71 or so?

2) if not available in this format then where can I get it modded? (don't have heart to do it myself, even after reading all the guides!!)

3) is the new price from sony (<9K) a good buy for a slim psp?

I just got the slim a couple of days ago, it was 3.71 upgraded it to 3.80... cant wait to install cfw... sadly dont know if there is anyone here in Goa who has a cfw psp.... if it's needed hell i'll cut the pin on my spare battery myself to make it a pandora... soldering it back is something i haven't thought about.. though i dont think that would be required given i will have another battery....
