Angad.
Hi, Yesterday at nehru place (Delhi) I saw a cable which was HDMI-to-Component. Now it had 5 component wires. The shopkeeper didnt have much idea about it except the fact that its a HDMI-to-Component converting wire. Now, if anyone here has any idea on such stuff, will it work if I use this wire to output only the sound through PS3 (edit: using th HDMI port) and connect the wires (edit: 5 wires on the other end of the HDMI-To-Component cable) to the amplifier of my 5.1 system, i.e. will i get the surround sound from it??? I dont wanna use HDMI for video, as I have a SDTV. My main problem is: 'the amplifier of the 5.1 Setup I have has 6 RCA inputs at the back (i.e. no optical input). I use it with my dvd player which has 6 RCA output (i.e. the decoding takes place in the DVD player itself), so it gives the perfect surround sound, However, to get surround sound from PS3, I need an optical Input or a HDMI input in my amplifier.' Now, Im aware that we can buy a pre-amplifier or Receiver specially for this, but they are damn expensive!! Can anyone here help me in this??? Thanks!! -Angy

skdMrk
Not getting your question??? The 5 wires on the other end of the HDMI-To-Component cable are for video (Red, Green, Blue) & stereo audio (Red & white) & I have never seen a cable for PS3 which will give you 6 RCA audio out like your DVD player has!!! Oh oki!!! Thanks!!! That answers the first part of my question :-)! Do we get any standalone amplifiers etc which have one optical-in port and 6 outputs for 6 speakers??? As i said, my amplifier doesnt have an optical input, just 6 RCA inputs, so can i get a standalone amplifier in the market which has an optical input and 6 RCA outputs for the speakers??? Death Stryke
Yeah u can get, n its not just onkyo, so many standalone amps have this. I am not an audiophile to suggest you a lot of names, but I know of onkyo, jamo, denon, yamaha. Check out this website. They are mainly concerned with A and V only. Onkyo receiver should set u back by around 15-20k? I remember that their home theater system which included 5 speakers as well was selling for 40k
punit
If you are considering buying an amp now, go for the one which has HDMI in/out ports. Optical ports are passe.

punit
Yeah thanks....il keep that in mind :-) As i mentioned somewhere else in the forum, it will be simply a 2 way HDMI connection: First between your PS3 and Amp. Secondly, between your amp and LCD/Plasma. You can forget all about your component, optical and coaxial cables in that case.
