Angad.
Hi guys any one who is interested in getting a USB head set.. I reccomend 100 %.. since they work great and u dont have to go thru the hassle of charging.. also the quality is better than a BT headset since its wired..NOw I will tell you a way to have a wired head set for real cheap.. since normal usb headsets cost around 1000 - 1500 bucks which is quite expensive.. 1. All you need is a normal headset with mike which you can use for ur computer (something im sure most of you already have) which has the two plugs.. one for the audio and one for the mike. 2. you will need a usb aud/mike adaptor which u can get from any shop for around 250 - 300 bucks.. the pic is below.. so all u need to do is connect ur normal head set on one side and the usb side into ur ps3. and Tadaa! you have a cheap solution.. which works beautifuly.. this is what I use.. 3. if you are sitting a little distance away from ur ps3 just buy a usb extention cable (pic below) that cost like rs 30 and ur all set.. Oh and btw THERE IS NO NEED TO INSTALL ANY SORT OF DRIVERS WHATSOSEVER.. This works as soon as you connect it.. Any one trying to sell you drivers for the adaptor is talking out of his a*s.. Hope ive helped. so this works!!!!! !!!!! I saw one of these in Nehru Place (delhi) but wasnt sure if it will work since it came with a driver cd....so i thought since it requires a driver install....wont work on ps3!!!! Thanks for confirming that it does indeed work!!!!!
HundredProofSam
But the PS3's USB interface doesn't output sound AFAIK. So while you can use the mic from your headset, you will hear other players from your speakers. Correct me if I'm wrong here. peace

HundredProofSam
I have a Microsoft Lifechat USB headset too. But I didn't even bother connecting it to the PS3 cause I was sure it wouldn't work peace

Correct me if I'm wrong here.peace Absolutely wrong..u hear others thru the headset as well.. it works just like a headset shud.. go ahead and buy it! Lots of people on this forum know me from online sessions of R2, KZ2, RE5, MS2 etc.. this works perfectly ..you hear other players thru the headset and the mike works perfectly as well. It really doesnt make sense why any one would think it wouldnt just because its a USB connection.. Remember the PS2.. it used a USB headset for online.. achilles
u r right. ur voice is pretty clear when we used to play RE5 demo together. @Angy: yea it works... but not all of them work. why dont u buy the USB headset which other ppl have tried first? then u can be less apprehensive.. i got a Bluetooth headset but now i am thinking of getting USB ones because bluetooth headsets have been proved to be Carcinogenic and the other thing is that its battery dies out, while there is no issue of battery with USB headsets... dunno bout the cancer thing but those r uncomfortable as hell. n the battery issue is a sore thumb as well m gona try usb. though the distance may be too big for me. Rashmeet
m using my headset the same way Phaseolus said....infact i discovered it myself and when i did i remember i told maybe Shantanu on shout..... its the best and most efficient way to use ur wired headset..... for me...i can chat via the mic...i can even hear the other chats via my headphones...but all other in-game voices come via the TV speakers EDIT- and the thing phaseolus mentioned...is nearly a 150 bucks on ebay....try searching usb audio and u'll get the results

Harsahil
i used the 3D sound(company name) adapter, the same which Phaseolus and rashroxx are talking abt and used it on my PS3, and voila it works gr8.. the sound is so clear and there is no problem of recharging whatsoever.. so dont wait a sec and go ahead and buy it. it will work. the headphones and mic both work for voice chat so u dont need to be apprehensive. and this adpter that i bought dont have any drivers CD.. u just need to connect it. nothing more. just select USB headset in ur accessory settings>audio device settings.. set it to both Input and output device. anyways total cost of this affair for me: 1. Headset with mic: 130 2. adapter: 200 (cheaper on ebay) Total: 330....!!! u have a working headset for Rs.330 and the sound is clearer than Bluetooth. who won't want this? to PS3 for its versatility and universal connectivity. and yes if u have a problem because of wire's length get that USB extention cable that Phaseolus mentioned and u r good to go. i played RE5 with Phaseolus for 3 hours last night and enjoyed crystal clear sound and excellent communication. plus no problem of getting ur headset charged in middle of gameplay. and Angy, i used a Bluetooth headset too. and the voice is distorted on it.. but this is not the case with USB headset plus no cancer i hope my words could save a life Edit: and to be on safe side, dont buy the adapter with the driver CD. get this 3D sound headset from ebay itself cos its already tested by so many ppl. i m sure u can find that in Delhi also... if i can get it in a small town where i live, it should be available in Delhi also.
