I was going to put Deus Ex in there but it's not a pure stealth title. So going by that logic even Oblivion, Vampire Bloodlines and any RPG which lets you create a stealthy character should be considered.

I haven't played MGS4 yet , best stealth game for me would be Thief 3 : Deadly Shadows.. , this game just rocks , hope someday Theif 4 releases with next gen graphics...

Amen to that. Where are you Warren Spector? He made such awesome games. Deus Ex, Thief, System Shock.

Hitman  , i still remember the tactics of all the 4 hitman games

i remember my tactics for hitman 4.like going thru various guides/walkthrus for de perfect position to place d bomb n perfectkill to get SILENT ASSASIN rating.

i couldnt spend 3-4 hrs only for 1 mission (couldnt save mission progress).but it was agood game.

I loved all the Splinter Cell games but my favorite is Chaos Theory. Perfect controls, awesome graphics and engaging missions. Really made you feel like a fearless stealth operative. Double Agent was good too but I played the crappy PC version which ruined it for me a little. But I loved the missions set in daylight... big departure from the previous games.

Arkham and the nes one

Haven't played the NES one so I don't know how it fares and Arkham Asylum hasn't been released yet. Also, Batman as a franchise has seen many different types of games including LEGO Batman.

but double agent cruise ship level

Dude the lego versions are not a comparison

Nes one was cool u had the zip line and would get to drop on them from above. IT had all the elements no detection in shadows , you must isolate a person before you take him out so as to avoid a brawl with the rest

I am just plain shocked that so few people played Thief. The rooftops level in Thief 2, or the Return to Cathedral in Thief are classic levels embodying the best elements of stealth. Even the level in Thief 2 where Garrett has to escape the whole police force of the City, break into his own home, and escape back out.
