Modding Ps2

Just to let you guys know the reason you get a new modded PS2 CHEAPER than the official one....

People in the grey market who mod these PS2s themselves mostly change the laser lens unit. Original one goes for somewhere around Rs. 2000. A cheap china one costs only Rs. 700 to Rs. 1000. Also, they change controllers. If you buy a modded PS2 from the grey market, you'll most likely get a fake controller which goes as cheap as Rs. 100 whereas the original controller that comes with the PS2 goes in the grey market for Rs. 600.

So you see how they make the modded PS2 cheaper than the one available officially.

One of my cousins was interested in a PS2, so I made him buy the official one and got it modded for another 1k. This way, he got the original controller and got the original lens too that lasts considerably longer than the shitty Chinese one.

Hi Guys,

Can i do a firmware update on modded PS2?

Don't think it's possible...

^^ U sure that IS indeed the case all over.. ?? (i mean palika here)

i intend to purchase one soon and this is indeed a concerning information..

and sorry for a noobie ques, afaik, the ps2 undergoes h.w mod..

so do they do it in front of u .. cuz wen i had got a psp modded.. they sent the psp to some of their champu who was obv doing it in secrecy..

So do they allow the ps2 to be modded in front of u , lest they disclose the location of their ahemware enabling lair ?

That is indeed the case my friend, and they'll never mod it in front of you. My situation was completely different coz I have a very good friend who is a professional PS2 modder, and he obviously did it in front of me. What you can do is buy an official PS2, and open the lid, and SIGN on the exposed metal part of your lens with a PERMANENT MARKER.

Make sure you don't touch the lens/glass part. Also make sure you sign in a way that it can't be replicated  Only give them the console and keep the controllers and cables with you as they only need the motherboard to solder the modchip in. This way, you can make sure you get your own lens unit back :(DO NOT FORGET to point it out to the shopkeeper that you have SIGNED the lens unit. Make sure he sees it. This way, if something goes wrong, he'll have no other option but to believe you

About their "ahemware enabling lair" :P Am 100% sure it's not run cooperatively and it's an "open shop" aka open to anyone. If you can find it, am sure the owner of that "ahemware enabling lair" aka shop owner will modify your PS2 for you and that too at a relatively cheaper price which would obviously not include the "shopkeeper's cut".

Over here, a respectable modder always opens the PS2 in front of you and will LEAVE the lens unit and the plastic casing with you while taking out the motherboard and making you SIGN on the motherboard just to ensure you that you're getting your OWN motherboard :D Thats how they do it here IF the customer personally visits the "ahemware enabling lair" :P

If you still got questions, then let me know :)

PS: No I don't do all of this. Am just a WELL INFORMED regular gamer like you :) It's not even my profession :)

You're better off getting one from the showroom and keeping a VERY CLOSE EYE on your stuff coz here the person might not even know his lens unit, controller, etc., was swapped for a cheaper one.

1) What are the default controllers with the ps2.

whats their price in mkt (Authentic dealer and grey)

Official Sony Indian ones cost somewhere around Rs. 1200. Original Sony (swapped from an PS2 package) grey market ones are for Rs. 600 to Rs. 650 MAX. :ranting:

2) Any plans by Sony to phase out ps2 ??

Don't care about that man. PS2 is a GREAT CONSOLE with awesome games. Ever played Persona ? Titles batate batate puri raat ho jayegi yaar :P

i agree with the signing part.

my dad while playing GTA:LCS on the psp (yes, u read that right.) and he dropped it accidentally.

after that incident the psp started hanging, so i went to this guy in palika and after having a look

he told me the mb will have to be changed as an IC was dislocated.

he then proceeded to make me sign each and every part of the psp before taking it for repair.

and before putting it back together, he rang me up and told me to come to his shop so that i could check that

nothing had been changed except the mb.

i got to repaired and it has been working fine since the past 1.5 yrs.

i then proceeded to inquire about him from various sources and it turns out that he is a sony worker who works

in their repair centre and then comes to palika to do his work there.

around 6 months back i went to his shop to get homebrew installed on my psp.

and thats where i got the proof. he took out an original sony pandora battery and MMS (both was marked REPAIR BATTERY

and REPAIR MS and had all kinds of labels on them)

he even did a free checkup.

we used to work in someone else's shop earlier but has now bought his own and the last time i visited him

his shop was full of xboxs and ps3s lined for repairs.

sorry for the long OT post but i guess it is my moral obligation to tell you guys that some good people do exist in the modding business.

its just a matter of finding them.

EDIT: he even gave me my old mb.
