Phoenix Wright
I think Gerrard is over-rated. When things are going right for him, they go massively right, but when they aren't, he relies too much on stupid long-shots and hollywood passes. I've seen it negatively affect Liverpool a lot of times, like last year's home draw against Stoke. They might even have won the game if they'd passed the ball around more, but every time Gerrard got the ball, he tried a shot from way out, or tried extremely stupid long balls. This is just one example I can remember. For the record, I think Kaka, Iniesta and Xavi are the top three midfielders in the world right now. HundredProofSam
I think Gerrard is over-rated. He has dips in form like everyone else. That doesn't make him overrated. Iniesta and Xavi have been around a while and are only now reaching their peak. Gerrard has been doing it for a long time. The point of discussion is the best midfielder (still playing), not the best midfielder right now peace

HundredProofSam
lamps has been the most consistent player easily over the past years . What about the time when he went 1 1/2 years without scoring for England? Besides, isn't he in the midst of a goal drought right now? peace

Dark_Knight
What about the time when he went 1 1/2 years without scoring for England? Besides, isn't he in the midst of a goal drought right now?peace He never played in the right position for England... Till Capello came no one could use both Lampard and Gerrard in the midfield properly... And about the 2nd part of your question, I think you have answered it yourself - He has dips in form like everyone else. But he has still managed to score around 20 goals a season for the past 6years...

HundredProofSam
But he has still managed to score around 20 goals a season for the past 6years... The difference being that Lampard has always had the likes of Mekelele, Essien, Malouda etc to do the hardwork for him. They feed him the ball and its target practice for him. On his own, he's quite ineffective. That's where Gerrard is a superior midfielder. He's physical and he has pace. PS: No more OT from me peace

PS: No more OT from me peace Oh come on... Gerrard had Alonso and recently Mascherano for support... If Lampard is good only because of the players around him then even Ballack, Deco had the same players around them but they are nowhere near as effective as Lampard... Maybe Gerrard has more pace than Lampard but more physical?? No way... Lampard constantly wins balls and holds on to them... Also remember how effective Gerrard was when Essien was marking him last season... P.S - Ok I am out also... I'll be available in the football thread P.P.S - My copy was dispatched today from PA... I will finally own a football game on the
