First of all, I refuse to believe that this was the first time accused were involved in such thing, especially the minor. He must have been part of minor or major incident which went unrecorded, somehow.

Someone who carried out brutal assault such as this, must be a hardened criminal. And someone pulling off the 'minor' trick through some BS school certificate must be knowing ins and outs of the legal system or coached by someone.

He greenlits nuke tests, goes to neighbour in a bus, kicks him in the teeth when he tries to intrude, gets uncle sam to India, gets him to our side, kickstarts golden quad project. All in two years time, and when dealing with allies like Jayalalitha and 23 others.

which pm in recent memory has done all that?

I love the guy.

Nukes had been going on for a long time, by a family you despise. It was just that in '98 before the aggressive posturing of Pakistan India needed to show its 'true' potential.

As far as I know, Pakistan is run by the ISI and the Pakistani Army's hedge interests. No surprise there that as soon as Kargil broke, everybody sh*t their britches. Oh! And don't worry the war was a terrible reminder to us about how ill-prepared we are for an attack in that region. 3 :1 ratio of Attacker vs. Defender and then we pushed out the well-entrenched enemy.

Uncle Sam got to India because it needed to get to India, not the other way around. They have been completely check-mated OR self-goaled themselves into the mess in Afghanistan, so much for selling Stinger's in the '80's to the Talib's.

All this not possible if India had not reformed its entire business structure in 1990 when we were at the end of our foreign reserves by an organisation you hate and a PM you despise. So check-mate, mate.

You cannot claim, Oh! teh are teh 1337 just because we won a war and became an ultra-jingoistic hot-pot at the turn of the century.

Need the balls to pull the trigger. Mrs G had too.

How many non-congress government we had before 1990 and for how many years, which missed to trigger the reforms?

That was check-mate? And if so, what would you say about India's affairs in SL?

Better than what we are right now...nobodies.

There were reasons it did not happen does not mean you crucify a person / organization in the same light. capt. Kalia died in 1999 (date disputed), did the BJP do anything, NO.

Sri Lanka was a mess of our adventures like the US / Soviet Union in Afghanistan, in hindsight we should have stayed out but at what cost no-one really knows.

Okay Sire, if you think it is good what we did. Live with that but if you respect our forces so much, just go to Base-Camp Siachen (Google it), realize the gargantuan cost involved in its upkeep, the absolute misery of those there and tell them that you are all nobodies. Cheers and I am out of here.

@alpha, Udham is particularly talking about Vajpayee here...As a person he had shown much better leadership quality than Mr. Mon Mohan Singh and Gandhi.

Kargil War was necessary ..even if we were unprepared...had we waited long things would have been different. The whole world was with us...one reason why pakistan felt left out. Infact ISI officer unofficially admired the way Indian Government took the public confidence also in this war ..which they regretted .

See India is very unprepared even now and always was...just because Pakistan is not done well we manage to screw them otherwise we dont stand chance in conventional war with any big nation like china...but there are times when you just cannot sit quietly also.....kargil war was a slap to India when Vajpayee had tried to be so friendly with Pak...the samjhota..the bus ...the kashmir -pok people to people exchange...

I admire him too ...i find him much better leader than what he have today.

^ Yes, that's what I'm saying.

He was a good PM and a great leader and had some really good people around him in his government who cared enough to make a difference, in the 5 yrs they got. He definitely didn't represent fanatics around him within his party...he was above all of them.

Kanchan Gupta covered him in 1977, I must salute his liberal views.

the absolute misery of those there and tell them that you are all nobodies.

Why I'm gonna do that?

We are totally indebted to our armed forces for the sacrifices they have made and keep making everyday.

Did we not have best Defence Minister during Vajpayee regime? Mr. George Fernandes.

You should know that he visited Siachen several times and went through military training.

My friend, time passes and everything ebbs and flows.

Mr. Vajpayee did not act alone, he had a Lok Sabha to contend with, a cabinet with egos (of all stripes) and dodgy allies. People around him and when a nation / person / organization is pushed to the brink of War, annihilation everybody decides to act.

The problem now is the Parliament behaves more like a market for the sale of votaries and vote-banks. No one has an credibility.

I cannot logic more but as a nation we are definitely not NOBODIES, it is an afront to every Indian, including me and you. Do you think you are a NOBODY?

We aided the European Union with a monetary package, is that the act of a NOBODY nation. There are plenty more examples of NOBODY nation helping out others and it is all because the final sum of things is greater than the individual wholes.

You cannot lionize one particular person / sect / religion / group saying yes these were the boys who are responsible for the whole, it is a long standing act.

You know the Pakistani's have a complex against the Indian soldiery because prior partition Pakistan provided a lot more of the 'Martial races' according to the British than the Indian diaspora. Who won the wars, the people who fought them with conviction, with strategy and time on their backs not some addled group of martial people with a rouge ideologue to follow.

I think, you have taken the NOBODY word too far. I would rather like to be in bit jingoistic nation than one which is sleepish and pushover.

Add this -- "I have been quoted out of context." to the statement, it will feel official.

There is nothing which is "out of context". :D

It was a parody on the 'official clarification' that comes out after certain Leaders pass comments / remarks / ruminations on a 'burning' topic.

Like this -- Rapes prevalent in India, not Bharat.

All Mr. PM can do is "Theek Hai".

yeah. people really need to let go of that. it was a simple question regarding the recording proceedings. sure it makes the statement sound mechanical, but should it be any other way ? remember its an official dialogue spoken by the incumbent head of the goverment.. there is no place for emotions there.

what would you rather have, pm breaking down and bawling like jaya bachchan on live tv ?
