Alekh worked at Doctors without borders last year, spent quite a while in chattisgarh. The movie is Jackie Brown, made by Tarantino.

That is IMI Tavor Tar 21, bullpup assault rifle from Isreal. is pretty badass.

and the dude wielding it looks a lot like saif khan

He is a player from KKR. I dont know the name.

Whole bunch was there with Jawans.

I used to consider such visits gimmicky but in the end it can be a great morale booster for Jawans, spending some time with cricketers and actors, and getting admiration.

And mad props to Nemo and alpha for sharing the info, you guys rock.

Thanks :)

and yes, i agree with your comments about moral boost for jawans. For me, they are the real heroes, forgive the cliche. Spending months away from home, half the career living in tents and then not having basic necessities given to them, sad. The army people too have such hardships but at lest the remuneration and compensation system along with recognition there is much much better than what is there in police and paramilitary units.

Hey thanks, such encouragements wants me to go the extra mile to help. :good:

About morale boosting visits, I remember there used to be a Independence Day and Republic Day special called Jai Jawan that used to air on NDTV, don't know if it still goes on.

YouTube launches paid channels starting at $0.99 per month

As long-rumored, YouTube is launching paid channels in a pilot program starting today. A small number of shows, including Sesame Street and UFC, will begin offering channels that can only be accessed after paying an apparently variable subscription fee, which starts at $0.99 per month. A full list of channels can be found on YouTube's Channels page, including offerings from film distributors Magnet and comedy channel Laugh Factory.

Some channels will offer yearly discounts, and all will come with a 14-day free trial. For now, the program is apparently quite small, but YouTube will be rolling it out in the coming weeks for current qualifying partners. Paid channels are an expansion of YouTube's partner channel program, which launched in 2012 and allows for more TV-like "series" or videos focused on a particular company. The company has played up the importance of subscription models before, and it's been making a heavy play to compete with both traditional television and streaming services like Netflix.

This is pretty good for the upcoming artists.

dafuq ! how is it good for new artists ? do you really think people will pay to watch a nobody balance cats on his manboobs ? sh*t..! paid youtube is the beginning of the end of memes :(

infact, free videos is the single biggest reason why people have been recognised almost overnight. Laina (love her ) aka the overly attached girlfriend and Gangnm style are clear examples. Yes psy might have been popular in korea but do you honestly believe he would have had such a mind boggling run across the globe if it werent for youtube ?

I hope this paid subscription fails. Nothing against youtube, it is pretty awesome and i owe a third of my time spend on internet since 07 to it. But seriously.. Bitch Please.

As long as it is only for (new) tv shows with full episodes, then it is ok. but if they begin to charge monies for 5 min clips of FRIENDS or Simpsons then they get no love from my side.

India has every right to build defence infrastructure: Antony

Pointing out that status quo ante had been restored after the three-week Chinese incursion in Ladakh, Defence Minister A. K. Antony on Saturday said that India has right to develop infrastructure, facilities and capabilities on its own land.

“Our Army and Air Force are developing their capabilities in border areas only on our own land and this process will continue,” he said while replying to questions at a press conference at the Naval Air Base in Goa after he commissioned the Navy’s MiG-29K combat jet squadron.

Mr. Antony said that India has “well established” procedures to sort out issues with its neighbours. His obvious reference was to the April 15 Chinese incursion in Daulat Beg Oldi (DBO) sector in Ladakh that ended after several rounds of flag meetings between local Army commanders and negotiations with Beijing at the diplomatic level.

“As China has right to improve infrastructure and other facilities in its border areas, India also has right to develop its capabilities and infrastructure in the border areas on its own land,” he asserted.

Reiterating that India would protect its national interests, including vital sea lanes which were becoming increasingly important for carrying on trade and commerce, Mr. Antony said that economic development depended on a secure environment. “We are supporting the Navy so that it can meet all challenges successfully. The Indian Navy will see a new age of more inductions in the years to come. It will protect the national interest in Indian ocean and elsewhere,” he added. Without naming any adversary, Mr. Antony asserted that India will do “everything to safeguard our national interests.”

He announced that indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC), being constructed at Cochin Shipyard, would be launched for outfitting on August 12. The 45,000-tonne aircraft carrier’s construction began in 2009 and after completing the undersea work like hull and propellers, it would be launched for outfitting on and above the deck. The first IAC is likely to be commissioned in 2017 after extensive sea trials that are expected to begin in 2016.

Modi questions India's dependence on defence imports

On the 15th anniversary of 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi asked on his blog on Saturday why India continues to spend thousands of crores of rupees on defence imports.

"Today, on the 15th anniversary of the Pokhran tests, there is a crucial question that we have to answer - how do we become self-sufficient in defence manufacturing? ... This is not only about military power but also about being self-reliant for our own defence equipment," he wrote.

"After around 65 years of Independence, why must we still spend thousands of crore of rupees to procure defence equipment from overseas?"

Lauding former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Modi said that Pokhran tests were possible because of "stellar work of our scientists and the strong leadership India was blessed with at that point of time."

"This is a challenge for our youth, talent pool, scientists - how we can combine our strengths and make India sufficient in defence-related manufacturing!" Modi wrotes.

As long as DRDO, HAL and other government aided defense PSU's are run the way they are the vision will be bleak; blocking private sector players like TATA, Mahindra and Reliance does not aid the cause either.

And doing a nuclear test is no great feat, North Korea and Pakistan also have that capability, irrespective of their standing in the world. The nuclear programme was in place since ~1971 (fear of Chinese nuke programme) and every-time we have displayed it implicitly sanctions have been pressed against us.

Good lord, this is a new level of slapping rationality and reason in its face by your balls. that too without any attempts of subtlety.

Incumbent govt cuts on defense budget in lieu of rising fiscal deficit and attempts on developing indegeneous tech, you take out tar and feathers accusing it to have sold the country out and having no idea as to how to go about securing our forces.

Opposition party member says India should focus more on domestic supply of defense equipment instead of spending big monies on firangi tech and you cannot stop gushing over him.

I am no congress supporter but when both parties sort of give the same opinion worded differently then only someone with blind faith would have different views on either.

You think we should be tough on China . They can f**k us up anytime if they want to. We should make sure we do whatever we can to ensure that their aggression slows down.

.

Did you even read the article?? read the article atleast before jumping to conclusion ....where does he say we should just cut defence budget ....he questions our huge spending on foreign tech instead of our own and about creating our own eco system of defence manufacturing

Read again...

"We should think of a larger debate, encourage free flowing of ideas to think of how India can develop human resources in defence manufacturing. Can we create an ecosystem to strengthen our manufacturing? Going a step ahead, we should even think of how we can export defence equipment," he wrote.

"In Gujarat we have made a small effort in this regard. In our engineering colleges we are working towards starting a subject related to defence manufacturing," he added.

...And i have always been saying that India has no doubt the best minds in the world but somehow we fail them to put use for our country and end up doing for more for Usa,england and all than our own mother land...We Indians are why USA is what it is today.....from IT to Defence to space to medical...what have we not given to this world...and where do we stand??.....now if a promising person who comes and is looking for that answer has my full attention .

True. Agree....DRDO is in bad shape...last i read some 700 people left DRDO ...i posted it here also.

I just deleted a whole paragraph to explain you but i realized ...what is to explain to someone who already knows what is happening and yet turns blind eye....

.This is what it took this time to slow down their aggression.

Ladakh incursion: China scores bloodless victory over India, more intrusions may come

Beijing insisted that India degrade its border defences by dismantling a key forward observation post, destroying defensive fortifications such as live-in bunkers for its troops, and suspending infrastructure development near the line of actual control (LAC). For its part, China, seeking to bolster its larger game-plan in eastern Ladakh to encroach on Indian land bit by bit, continues to rapidly build up an offensive capability.

In forcing Indian troops to start demolishing bunkers before officially terminating the stand-off and softening up India for further bargaining, China has vindicated its coercive diplomacy while rendering India more vulnerable to Chinese military maneuvers and raids. The razing of bunkers has already forced Indian troops to suspend patrolling up to the LAC in the Chumar area, a development that threatens to whittle down Indian salience in a critical border region while opening space for China to expand its sovereignty claims.
