Right
In the 90s, ek gadhe ke sirf teen naam hua karte the. Ab to saare gadhe ban ke reservation ki aag mein political rotiya sek rahe hai. No one wants to abolish reservations, just limit it to 20% or something, 10% for fwd poors, 10% for bcwds.
avkash
let me tell you a simple truth - if a quota guy gets rank one in an exam then he gets to choose if he wants to take a general category seat or a quota seat - because his rank is higher than other general category students, he can leave the quota seat to be filled in by other lesser fellows, The general category students get no choice - THIS IS DISCRIMINATION. Again, I really do not care which caste you give the reservation to - give it to the ones who need them - the financially poor and the intellectually capable ones. Moreover, like Gaurav said, primary education is much much much more important than the college, that is the one that the government should target. playstation
India is ready to write new chapter of ties with China: Salman KhurshidBEIJING: India is ready to write a new chapter of its relationship with China and the two countries should align their positions in many areas despite differences, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said on the eve of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's visit to India. "This visit is special because it is the first visit abroad by the Chinese premier since he assumed office in March. The relationship between our two countries are now sound and good," Khurshid told Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua in an interview today. Khurshid believed the two neighbouring countries, despite their differences, have a lot in common and should "align their positions in many areas." "India is ready to write a new chapter of our relationship with China," he said. The upbeat tone is shared by Sitaram Yechury, a senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and a member of the upper house of the Indian parliament. "This will be a very important visit for India. It will not only strengthen but also multiply the ties between the two countries," said Yechury, noting that the two countries are registering enviable growth rates while many other economies are struggling in recession or slowdown. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/india-is-ready-to-write-new-chapter-of-ties-with-china/articleshow/20125741.cms .... Border issue, trade on China's Li Keqiang's agenda during India visit Talks are ongoing on the draft, said the source, adding "it will continue to be discussed". The draft "essentially consolidates and brings together" earlier protocols and agreements. Everything would be on the table when the two premiers meet, said the source, adding they are very likely to discuss the border issue. The trade imbalance would also figure in talks. India is to press for market access in pharmaceuticals and IT. Bilateral trade was $66 billion in 2012 as China became India's second-largest trading partner. However, the trade imbalance stands at $28.87 billion, which is in favour of China. Both sides are also expected to discuss regional and international issues, including Afghanistan. On Monday, he will be accorded a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan and also visit Rajghat to offer tributes. He will then hold delegation level talks with the prime minister at Hyderabad House after which the two sides are expected to ink some agreements. The Prime Minister will host a lunch for the Chinese premier. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj will call on him. Li will call upon Vice President Hamid Ansari and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. On Tuesday, he will address an event at the Taj Palace Hotel being hosted by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) and FICCI and then proceed to Mumbai. In the afternoon, Li would visit the TCS office and also meet with the relatives of Dwarkanath Kotnis, an Indian doctor who is warmly remembered in China for his services during the second Sino-Japanese war (1937-1945). In the evening, he is to address a dinner meeting of the three business chambers - Assocham, FICCI and CII. Ahead of his arrival, the Chinese premier has already indicated the direction his interactions would take by hearkening back to his visit to this country 27 years ago and saying the fond memories of that trip have had a "lasting effect" on him. Addressing an Indian youth delegation in Beijing ahead of his India visit, Li said he has chosen India as his first foreign stop as prime minister, "not just because India is an important neighbour and one of the populous countries of the world but also because of the seeds of friendship sown during my own youth". http://ibnlive.in.com/news/border-issue-trade-on-chinas-li-keqiangs-agenda-during-india-visit/392515-3.html You send men with guns deep inside our land ....tell us to back off and destroy our means of defence and then you talk about friendship ...mc ...apna friendship apne pas rakh ... btw with leaders we have we dont need you as enemy anyways....they doing the job for your country . Sa1nT_SoLd1eR
Mad props for the writer for having the guts to speak in such unequivocal terms on range of subjects plaguing the public space for almost 2 years now !! http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/lead/the-conceit-of-the-antidemocrat/article4733613.ece These theologians of the upper middle class supremacy are entitled to their disappointment. But what should be a matter of concern to all who value social fairness and democratic equity is the elite conceit — that those who pride themselves on their new prosperity have achieved their current superior status entirely on their merit, based on individual talent and personally acquired skills, and that these meritorious achievements ipso facto elevate the class to a higher level of nobility, a superior morality, ethics and good taste. These upper middle class ideologues would not want to be reminded that they themselves are a product of an unfair system in an unequal society. But having made it good in this tainted and corrupt system, and having gained access to the global job market, these upper middle class fundamentalists now want the state and its institutions to turn their back on the poor and the have-nots. Any attempt at inclusive politics and economics is suspect in the eyes of these promoters of the elite virtues and values.
Nemo
Mad props for the writer for having the guts to speak in such unequivocal terms on range of subjects plaguing the public space for almost 2 years now !! http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/lead/the-conceit-of-the-antidemocrat/article4733613.ece dude, dude.. that was pretty great. Loved every bit of it. i find resonance with this piece. Havent read the paper form of today's hindu but i was reading indian express some mins ago and in there was a similar sort of article that covered the just concluded pakistan's general elections. The writer there is a pakistani author (who btw is a very very gifted satirist, the lulz are epic and jibs are hard and thoughtful) who described and analyzed the performance of Imran Khan's Tehreek e Insaf which was apparently the favorite of upper middle class youth of pakistan as demonstrated by heavy social media presence. the fact that his party managed but a fraction of votes suggests that these 'harbingers' of change and revolution are nothing but a small but very vocal minority that is contend to sit on the computer and twiddle their thumbs in pursuit of armchair activism. IK's party has a strong right wing rhetoric with frivolous ideas for bringing an improved governance (strike any resemblance with any one here in india ?) that self proclaimed social media mouthpieces lapped up. This line of thinking totally bypasses a vast majority of electoral mass that does not have a collective voice in all but the most important platform- the Voting day and thankfully, that is what counts in a democracy. have a looksie- http://www.indianexpress.com/news/pakistan-2.0/1118325/
Sa1nT_SoLd1eR
Awesome read that one as well, I rarely touch the other sections of TIE, but some of the editorials have been marvellous in retrospect terms. The fundamentalist undercurrent was always there, even in the speeches that he gave, and the opportuinistic overtones he subscribed to during the campaign itself !!! Nemo
well upa bandwagon was going pretty well till mid 2010 when cwg scandal was unearthed and it went all downhill from there. prior to that they were pretty good actually. upa 1 was boss, what with nuclear deal and keeping india safe from 08 economy crisis. they got a big win in 15th LS and deservedly so, but 3 out of 4 years so far of upa 2 have been very bad. their flagship programs are going on guzzling money without throwing up results and it took an ipl scandal to keep them away from regular front page bad news. i would not say the whole country knows that they are not doing anything, the fiscal expansion wrt pro poor policies generate a LOT of goodwill. things like nrega and (if passed) the food security bill will give a lot of boost amongst the people who actually come to cast votes. these policies are very very well intentioned but equally badly executed and therein lies the schism between the lower class and upper-middle class's perception of governance.
