apparently the joke going around is:

If one politician drowns in a river, it is pollution

if all politicians drown in a river, it is a solution

Online pornography to be blocked by default, PM announces - BBC

Every household in the UK is to have pornography blocked by their internet provider unless they choose to receive it, David Cameron has announced.

Mr Cameron also called for some "horrific" internet search terms to be "blacklisted", meaning they would automatically bring up no results on websites such as Google or Bing.

---

I won't be surprised if India follows suit

That's just the first step towards censoring the internet. Anyone who thinks the motive is pornography can't be more wrong.

There's no money or profit in blocking porn. Instead the government has to spend huge sum of money for the infrastructure , which will be easily bypassed.

India to call on millions of non-residents to defend rupee: sources

India is considering calling on its millions of non-resident citizens to help reverse a record slide in the rupee and does not favor the idea of a global sovereign bond at this time, senior government officials told Reuters on Monday.

"All have agreed that it is not a time for India to issue sovereign bonds at this stage," one official said, adding that the central bank agreed with that position too.

"We do not have much options. Whatever has to be done, will be done in the next few weeks," the official said. "We have a window of only few weeks," he said.

"The government could ask banks to raise interest rates to attract an additional $15-20 billion," he said.

Mumbai restaurant shut down for criticising UPA government

Mumbai: Protest and dissent is something that politicians cannot digest easily. A blatant example of this was seen in Mumbai after Congress leaders forced an eatery in Parel to shut down because the owner had printed bills with a note slamming the UPA government.

The owner of the eatery, Srinivas Shetty, had printed the note on food bills as a mark of protest on tax on AC restaurants.

The note on bill receipts read: "As per UPA government, eating money (2G, Coal, CWG scam) is a necessity and eating food in an AC restaurant is a luxury".

On getting to know of the matter, Congress workers barged into the restaurant Aditi Pure Veg, located on Dr E Borges Road opposite KEM Hospital on Monday, and asked the owner to close the place.

They apparently told the owner that they had been instructed from Delhi to do what they were doing.

*beep* you UPA!.......Delhi se order hai ki restaurant band karo.....aur joh border par gush jata hai ...woh log ke liya koi order nahi....bc....

Chinese troops crossed Line of Actual Control 150 times this year

With three incursions in the past five days, Chinese aggression in Ladakh is showing no signs of let-up. According to sources, the incidents happened on July 16, 17 and 20, when Chinese troops crossed the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and came two kilometres inside Indian territory in Chumar sector.

Sources said the Chinese Army patrol has crossed the 4,087km LAC more than 150 times this year. In fact, ever since the intrusion in Daulat Beg Oldie in April, which lasted three weeks, the incursions have become a frequent affair.

On Monday, Army chief Bikram Singh met defence minister AK Antony and national security advisor Shiv Shankar Menon and apprised them of the present situation at the LAC.

2002 Gujarat riots led to formation of Indian Mujahideen: Shakeel Ahmed

Congress General Secretary Shakeel Ahmed today claimed that it was the 2002 Gujarat riots that led to the formation of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM).

"Indian Mujahideen was formed after the Gujarat riots, says NIA in its charge sheet. Even now BJP and RSS will not desist from their communal politics?," Ahmed said on microblogging site Twitter.

Poverty in India drops to 21.9 per cent in 2011-12: Planning Commission

New Delhi: Virtually sticking to its earlier controversial way of calculating poverty figures, Planning Commission said on Tuesday the number of people living below the poverty line has shrunk in both urban and rural areas.

The number of people living below the poverty line has shrunk to 21.9 per cent in 2011-12 from 37.2 per cent in 2004-05 on account of increase in per capita consumption.

According to the Planning Commission, in 2011-12 for rural areas, the national poverty line by using the Tendulkar methodology is estimated at Rs. 816 per capita per month in villages and Rs. 1,000 per capita per month in cities.

This would mean that the persons whose consumption of goods and services exceed Rs. 33.33 in cities and Rs. 27.20 per capita per day in villages are not poor.

Earlier, the Planning Commission had triggered a major controvery by saying anyone spending more than Rs. 32 per day in urban areas was not poor. This criteria for fixing poverty line was criticised across the political spectrum as being unrealistic and unmindful of present day realities.
