Another example being that of the word Hindu, which in original should have been Sindhu but because the Persian language did not have a syllable 's' in their language and hence they pronounced it Hindu which later on became the standard pronounciation. I mean they didnt Condone SS, Nazis and holocaust; but the axis was seen as a prospect supporter in the 'the enemy of my enemy (Britannia) is my friend' kind of way. Specially wrt Japan. Bose's love for Japan at that time is well known. Hitler too had hushed support and silent nods from certain intellectual and politically active class. We indians up north have had a mythological admiration for the Aryan race (not sure if it is the same 'Aryans' that gave Hitler a massive boner) and Hitler at Tue very least had begrudging acceptance from our part of the word. And Hitler on his part never did anything to antagonise people of subcontinent, though it might have to do more with his indifference towards this region than anything, what with the WW2 going on and him having to face the 11 time zones of USSR led by the man who in his 20s looked like this- *young Stalin had the power of making panties disappear just by walking past them* Who was supported by UK and United states of "wtf Japan, pearl harbor, not cool" America. Even now you would meet some 'edgy' indians who revere Hitler and swear by mein kampf. Had couple girls and a dude in my school in and around my year who discovered the book in the library and subsequently a new set of ideology to live by. Dont know if it were the rebellious teenage phase or if they still dole out straight armed perpendicular salutes but the fact that they somehow overlooked their own brown skin while advocating the Fuhrer's line of political thought, the same thought that would gas the bejeejus out of their non-white a*s if it were employed in their area, is an irony that breaks the spacetime continuum itself. Fast fact, Erwin Rommel landed in North Africa with only ~50 tanks out of which only ~20 or so had long-barrelled guns that could successfully engage and eliminate English Valentines and Matildas. Still he absolutely ruled the roost in Africa for two years before the Allies managed to get a 4:1 (in some cases even more) tactical superiority in every sphere, material and manpower. Even now you would meet some 'edgy' indians who revere Hitler and swear by mein kampf. You would be surprised to know that Russia has the highest prevalence of fascist movements modelled after Nazism, that after loosing the ~15 -->17 million lives to stop the advance of the same in the 1940's. No, that was just the first wave of tanks which came in with the newly formed 21st Panzer Division, PzKPfw Pz III's with long barrelled KwK 38 50mm guns, eventually the AfrikaKorp (DAK) did get up-to ~300 tanks on its roster but by then the US was in the war and not a lot could be achieved. The North Africa theatre of war was also the Western Allies first experience with newer German technological marvels like the PzKPfw Pz. VI better known as TIGER and various variants of Messerschmitt 109 Type F and G. Rommel was one of the best commanders of the war, highly decorated, young and with a clean record. His command was the only one which did not follow various draconian Nazi edicts like The Commando Order, The Final Solution and treated his PoW's with dignity and respect (including a lot of Indian PoW's). Snubbing his achievements like this is disrespectful, sure he was on the loosing side but that does not change the fact that he was a MAN of honour, dignity and skill. The fast fact bit was added on the spur of the moment to bring attention to the point and the fact of how good a commander he was. If you think this is pretentious, I cannot help you. Had successfully got into a treaty with CCCP which was highly beneficial to them till its existence started several German franchises which are super-popular today, case in point But does all this mean we salt the books of The Holocaust, forget the War that raged for six bloody years. NO. Everyone builds castles, just that some are achieved while the others are lost. And as I said earlier, "If you win, you need not explain. If you lose, you should not be present to explain." If the war would have been won by The Axis, we would all be singing a different tune, that much I can guarantee. Near the famous hanuman temple, ive had it myself.However, it does not mean that it is available everywhere. The gurdwaras do the wonderful job of feeding any 1 who comes in their langar for free ( I always praise Sikhism everywhere just for this.
