2,730 bodies found in Kashmir's unmarked graves

25sld1.jpg

In a startling revelation, the Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission has stated that it has found 2,730 bodies dumped in unmarked graves in four different districts of the state.

In its 'Inquiry Report of Unmarked Graves in North Kashmir', the SHRC states that the unidentified bodies had been buried in 38 sites in north Kashmir's Baramulla, Bandipora, Handwara and Kupwara districts.

At least 574 have been identified as bodies of local Kashmiris.

The government had previously said that the graves were of unidentified terrorists, most of them Pakistanis killed over the two decades of violence in Jammu and Kashmir and whose bodies had been handed over to village authorities for burial.

However, in response to commission inquiries, in March 2010 district police claimed that a total of 464 unidentified bodies had been buried in north Kashmir.

A tiff ensued when the victim was trying to reverse her car inside the school compound and the accused came in the way. FIR lodged, the boy is missing

Not quite what you would expect on Teacher's Day. A class X student allegedly attacked his 25-year-old teacher yesterday, thrashed her and slapped her on the cheeks after an argument inside school premises in RK Puram area of south Delhi.

The victim complained to the principal in this respect and also gave a written complaint. The police were called at around 1 pm. A senior police official said that an FIR under section 323/509 and 506 of IPC was lodged against the student. However, the accused managed to escape from the school premises and is still on the run.

The police said that the student was identified as Vishnu, a resident of Ambedkar Basti in south Delhi area.

"It was lunch time when the incident occurred. The victim, Neha (name changed on request) teaches Mathematics. She was reversing her car from a parking place inside the school premises when the accused student picked up an argument with her.

The teacher asked him to go back in class. This made the accused angry. He hurled abuses at her. The teacher got out of the car. The accused manhandled her, thrashed her and slapped her thrice on her cheeks. The accused then allegedly threatened her of dire consequences. The victim raised an alarm. Meanwhile, the accused fled from the scene," said a police official.

Neha then narrated the whole incident to a colleague who advised her to report the matter to the principal. "A police team was sent to the accused's home in Ambedkar Basti but he wasn't there. He will be arrested soon," said the police official. Meanwhile, a source said that the school authority might expel the accused for his behaviour.

Indian education system 2nd only to politicians in corruption

Professor M Anandakrishnan, the Chairman of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, told Andrew T Simkin, US Consul General in Chennai, that India's education system is second only to politics as the nation's most corrupt system.

In a cable dated February 24, 2010, Simkins said: "Professor M Anandakrishnan, who is a member of the Tandon task force appointed to suggest reforms in higher education told us of enormous 'under the table' entrance fees (known as 'capitation fees' in local parlance), including charges of between $100,000 and $200,000 USD just for a seat at a post-graduate medical college, paid up front and in cash."

"Anandakrishnan also told us of an instance when an IAS officer served as a vice-chancellor despite lacking any qualifications to do so. He also cited one example of a doctoral programme, which had 110 faculty members (of which only 18 had PhDs) to support 1200 PhD students."

"Dr Anandakrishnan told us that some of these institutions were set up by Congress or allied party (such as the DMK) politicians, and he cited the Rajiv Gandhi Institute in Sriperumbudur and the Bharat University, both in Tamil Nadu, as examples of poorly-run institutions headed by politicians. According to Dr. Anandakrishnan, the task force took its findings to Minister Kapil Sibal, who reported them to PM Singh; PM Singh then asked Sibal to "clean it up."

Nothing to be surprised sirji. The going rate for a PG seat for something as common as General Surgery (which, contrary to popular opinion, is actually one of the least paying field in medical practice in the current scene) is 65-70 lacs in ok-ish colleges. Good colleges like PGI-Chandigarh & PGI-Lucknow demand upwards of 80-90 lacs. More than 1 crore is the capitation fees for Orthopaedic surgery or Radio-diagnosis.

Add to these the fees, which in private college ranges from 25-40 lacs depending on the branch you pursue and you can see why health is becoming so costly nowadays.

AN international Defence cadet who allegedly filmed a female student in the shower was last night suspended from training.

In the latest incident to rock the Australian Defence Force Academy, Pakistani student Obaid Fayyaz is accused of using a hidden camera to film the woman.

Last night Defence Minister Stephen Smith said he would not comment on a matter before the courts.

But a spokesman said: "If these allegations are true, they are of course unacceptable and do not accord with community standards".

Mr Fayyaz, 21, appeared in the ACT Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with committing an act of indecency without consent.

He was ordered to surrender his passport and was granted bail to reappear on September 9.

ACT Police were called to the academy late on Thursday night after a 21-year-old female cadet found a mobile phone hidden in a vent above her shower cubicle.

The phone's video camera had been filming her.

Mr Fayyaz was arrested and his laptop and a USB memory stick were seized along with the phone. He was taken to the ACT watchhouse and charged.

23 Thalassemic children test +ve for HIV

Twenty-three children suffering from thalassemia have tested HIV positive at a Junagadh civil hospital where they had gone for blood transfusion, prompting authorities to order a probe.

"Twenty three children have tested positive for HIV in Junagadh civil hospital. Over 50% of the children were taking blood transfusion from multiple sources," Gujarat health minister Jaynarayan Vyas said citing a report of the tests conducted on the children three days back.

"The pre-blood transfusion test conducted on them shows they were infected prior to admission in Junagadh civil hospital," he said.

The children suffering from thalassemia visit the hospital from various towns of the district to avail the facility of blood transfusion which is offered twice a week free of cost.

"A probe has begun. The blood collected both from the blood bank and from donors has been sent for testing," Junagadh Civil Hospital Superintendent GT Dayalu said.

"Patients might have been HIV positive even before coming here for blood transfusion," he said.

The children might have been transfused HIV infected blood without conducting a proper test, a senior doctor of the hospital claimed.

Gujarat government has also launched an inquiry into how the children contracted the virus.

Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder in which body makes an abnormal form of haemoglobin and there is excessive destruction of red blood cells leading to anaemia.

hey motabhai...i know this sounds very odd but just thought will ask anyways....when hiv blood is transfused into a patient...can it not be taken out and replaced by more pure blood....or like once hiv blood is transfused it will spread to body immediately and changing blood also will not help??
