So that guy was a serial offender and he was hired directly by uber. Good thing uber is banned.

As with other politicians, you also are highlighting the scapegoat. The entire law has to be changed about how to deal with such service based companies.

For example, what is the penalty for not doing a background check. But that is secondary. My primary concern is, everyone will be happy now that uber is banned, and the driver is in custody. They will forget about how bad the city is for women. City, or country as a whole.

The media made a huge hue and cry about Nirbhaya, but eventually everything died down, and they went on to other things.

corruption in j&k is unprecedented,i can vouch for this.To make matters worse the RTI has been severely diluted by the state assembly.

It is a problem all over india and must be solved as a whole though ,you are right on that account.

Seems last term for Abdullas.

But not seen Farooq from long time, seems he left India after modi took over.

This is exactly what my wife and I were discussing a week back. It's ludicrous the way women are treated in this country and it doesn't look like anything is going to change.

Inless of course there's radical change in thinking starting at the family and home level. Not talking of just rape and sexual harassment here but the general notions of a woman's worth in our society.

Adjusted for population growth over time, the annual rape rate in India has increased from 1.9 to 2.0 per 100,000 people over 2008-2012 period. This compares to a reported rape rate of 1.2 per 100,000 in Japan, 3.6 per 100,000 in Morocco, 4.6 rapes per 100,000 in Bahrain, 12.3 per 100,000 in Mexico, 24.1 per 100,000 in United Kingdom, 28.6 per 100,000 in United States, 66.5 per 100,000 in Sweden, and world's highest rate of 114.9 rapes per 100,000 in South Africa.

Its still low and can be contained.

What we need is swiftness in justice and special all-woman council in every city which will do everything right from the reporting of incidents to providing medical care, legal issues and counseling to victims.

Let these council be governed by NGOs and people from civic society, colleges/schools.

Change in the mindset discussion is perpetual and never ending, it won't happen.

Yes and yes.

Your assessment is pretty much a direction we should be heading in.

As for the mindset of course it will never happen.

Farooq has been ill for some time now, thats why he is hardly seen in public.

Why did the lion cross the road? Chilling moment big cat roams streets in suburban Mumbai caught on camera by police officer

Passers-by stumbled upon the big cat after it was said to have escaped the Borivali Sanjay Gandhi National Park safari just north of India’s financial capital.

However, an official from the popular tourist attraction denied reports that a lion had fled the reserve, which attracts more than two million visitors a year. The official said the park's three lions were all accounted for. The moment was caught on camera as the lion casually walked along a main road near Thane on Sunday. A police officer, seated in a car as it followed the animal, used his mobile phone to record the surreal sight. But the stray lion isn’t enjoying its moment in the spotlight and suddenly makes a turn and scampers off the road in an attempt to elude its followers. The 35-second video shows the lion vanishing into a nearby forest. The search for the big cat is ongoing. Pawan Sharma, founder of Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare, told DNA: 'After seeing the video, we tried to trace the lion with forest officials. However, till now, there has been no clues. The search will be on.' Thane chief conservator of forest, Kaushlesh Singh, told the news agency: ‘The three lions are safe at SGNP.‘I saw the video clip and have sent teams to trace the lion. At the same time we are cross-checking the relevance of the video and trying to figure the location of the lion to ascertain whether it strayed from any nearby locality.’
