KOLKATA/NEW DELHI: In 1996, when McDonald's entered India for the first time, it did the unthinkable, eschewing its trademark beef burgers. Sixteen years on, it is about to do the equivalent of blasphemous in the fast food trade by opening only-veg burger joints.<br style="padding: 0px; margin: 0px; border: 0px; ">

The world's second-largest restaurant chain will open its first vegetarian-only McDonald's restaurant at the foothills of the Vaishno Devi shrine at Katra in Jammu & Kashmir, next year. So what if its American fans say 'holy cow!' and faint if they walk in.

Political parties 'earned' whopping Rs 4,662 crore in 7 years, claim NGOs

NEW DELHI: Political parties in India have 'earned' a whopping Rs 4,662 crore through donation and other sources since 2004 with the ruling Congress at the top with an income of Rs 2,008 crore followed by BJP at Rs 994 crore, two NGOs claimed today.

Relying on the IT returns and list of donors submitted to the Election Commission for the period 2004-2011, Association for Democratic Reforms and National Election Watch released a report on the income of 23 major parties.

If it's all legit, ie from donations etc, then what's the problem ?

If its all so legit , why hiding the big percentage of donors??

The country's biggest political party, Congress, for instance, named donors of just 11.89% of its total income of Rs 2,008 crore between 2004-05 and 2010-11. BJP declared the names of donors who contributed 22.76% of the Rs 994 crore collected by the party over the seven years. SP declared just 4.48% of its income of Rs 279 crore through donations above Rs 20,000 while the figure was even lower for CPM, at 1.29% of its income of Rs 417 crore, and none for BSP, which declared that it did not receive any donation of more than Rs 20,000 for its total income of Rs 484 crore.
