GTA IV (PC) sells 50K copies in India

Recommended Posts

It's not better coz it's costlier. Its better coz the game was designed to be played on a console. That applies to most games these days. PC versions are an afterthought.

I spent 50k on my PC, FFS. I should've bought a Wii instead lol

peace

even an afterthought looks and handles better on a pc and plz ffs dont bring in the fcking floor mat to the discussion

No, it doesn't. Consoles are now the lead platforms for majority of cross-platform games. Once that happens, most of the time, the PC version ends up inferior, or the developers will take another 3-6 months to get a decent PC version out.

Actually the last really bad port I remember in the past year or so is GTA. And there are an insane amount of ports that are better than consoles, just off the top of my head Riddick, Mirrors Edge, TRU, DMC4, Bioshock, The orange box and pretty much every other game that you could name.

I would even add Dead space to that list if you have a gamepad.

Mirror's Edge and DMC4 were both delayed releases = not a priority for the developer. The DMC4 trend has been carried forward with SF4 and Bionic Commando, and I'm guessing all Capcom games, as well.

TRU looks and plays better on the 360 (at least better than it does on an 8800GT).

Dead Space looks the same. Here too, I thought the 360 version looked and played better, but it's subjective. Only watched the PC version in action briefly.

I can drop names to further my point as well, but that game never ends.

Nope. Played both versions personally (again for the achievements), PC version is definately better looking. Cant say that about Dead space cause I didnt play the 360 version but word around the net is its a very good port and above the console versions.

Coming back to the topic, marketing companies (for games) in India are woefully inept.

The guy from the company hired to market Gears 2 (dunno the name, but they had tied up with our station to give away Gears 2 copies and a couple of 360s) visited my office a couple of months back and tried to convince me to buy a 360 cuz Killzone 2 was about to release.

When I told him that the game is a PS3 exclusive, he just looked at me and said that its coming on 360... "they" have told us. Who are "they".. I asked him but he didn't seem to know that either. Just slunk away when he realised that I know a bit more about gaming than he thought.

f**king Cow-People I tell u!

It was hillarious. But imagine, these are the people hired to market games in India.

Not knowing that Guerilla Games is a first part studio is still excusable, but not understanding that a Sony published game will not release on a Microsoft console is just sad (That's the logic I gave the guy before he countered with the assurance from the mysterious "They")

Oh yeah, and these guys were pitching to promote Killzone 2 in India as well. I wonder how that went.

Ah, finally some news for PC gamers like me to rejoice about!

Selling 50k + copies is definitely possible for GTA4. India have millions of people who use the internet and have a PC. From those millions there are a few hundred thousand of them, interested in playing videogames. From those few hundred thousands we are talking about, only a few thousands have bought a single legit game in their entire lives but playing pirated games have made them change from casual gamers to active ones.

Given the fact that GTA 4 was so competitively priced and that most of the active gamers in India have got a taste of the sandbox world of GTA before. There was no reason holding them back from buying a legit copy of the game! Most of us buy pirated games( I try to buy as much legit games as I financially can), but that's just because of the insane legit prices of videogames in India. Thanks to the indifferent attitude of the Indian Govt towards gamers and custom officials. But, the times are changing now! PC games are getting cheaper than ever and everyone wants to buy legally the games from which they derive so much pleasure. I have a gaming clan and also lots of friends who are skilled PC gamers. Most of them prefer buying pirated games as they are an cheap and easy to locate alternative to legit games. But, when I informed that GTA 4 is selling for 499, the 8 copies that were available in planetM disappeared! Most of them bought a copy to call their own!

I am guessing that must be the same case all over India. Many gamers who are dependent on pirated games, must have seen GTA 4 selling for 499 and have grabbed it with both hands. It's really a good news and hope it encourages distributors to find a solution for pricing other titles as competitively as they had priced GTA 4.

And PC gamers are definitely the superior ones. Agreed consoles are the new kids on the block and most of the publishers are churning out exclusives like hot cakes off the stove. BUT, if you have a decent config nothing in this freaking world can beat PC gaming. PC gaming dominates the FPS genre and PC gaming has given people a second life by creating the magic i.e RPGS. Sure devs might be ignoring us for the moment but they will soon realize their folly and return to us (hee hee). And no friggin console can match the power of a PC! The hardware is much superior! (Crysis anyone?). Consoles are fun nonetheless, but playing a game in a PC is a much more satisfying and superior experience.

And who says PC has got only cheap console ports? :harhar: The ones which were developed in a hurry were the only horrible ones. IF the studios give the PC ports, the time and respect they deserve...they always turn out to be superior than their console counterparts!

And all of you console errm…enthusiasts, just wait till Diablo 3 releases. You will know how many people plays PC games. And before I forget, Call of Duty, Gears of War. Arguably the best next-gen FPS games and where do you derive the most fun playing them? The PC ofcourse! Lan gaming FTW! :panic:

PC gaming will never EVER fade away. It will strike back. The fun derived from playing a good ol PC game cant be competed with. I hold nothing against consoles and will be buying a PS3 very very soon! But PC gaming will forever remain my crush, my love. Long Live PC gaming and long live Deus EX(sorry I just had to say it :majesty: )

Ah, feels much better. Now flame me, mock me. I was sick and tired of you console guys ranting away how PC gaming is passé while it never was and never will! While you say what childish comments I have just made. I will just wait for a few exclusive PC titles which will deliver a knockout punch to yall. Spank you very much.
