Death Stryke
Okay, but isnt this something related to the carrier? Which is Airtel in this case? Aren't they the ones who should be knowing how to unlock it as we will have to approach them. Sorry kaza for using your thread, but probably this info will help ya
lastAvenger
^ Yeah! thats what even I was told too. I'm not sure how it works. I think this is how it works when we activate our iPhone's. Basically we are using Apple servers for activation and they have a list of UDID [ Unique Device ID's like 25 characters long ] which is tied up with carriers. So when we unlock, they don't check anymore with the carriers. I trust Airtel, i'm sure they know their stuff. If it was BSNL, i would be worried lol . I'm missing the 3rd Gen, will be hopping on the 4th Gen straight away. My unlocking will be coming up in Jan and I will be missing the free Edge service

Really appreciate it How much did you get the Indian one ? I bet it was really costly I am thinking of investing not more than 10k in a phone. Hence the SE path I compeltely fell in love with the K790i coz of the awesome camera and the CyberShot features Thinking of getting either that one or a better one in terms of camera from the US

arun360
30K for a phone. Hmm. I like how people are ready to pay an arm and a leg to own a phone that is supposed be some sort of ultimate convergence device and then go on and buy the dedicated devices it is supposed to replace. The only way you can justify that kind of investment - if it really stopped you from purchasing/using a camera, mp3 player or handheld gaming console. Gautam
30k for an iphone is really a joke. Especially since the services that it is really good for are not even provided in India. No 3g = Fail. I'm not sure how useful is the gps/maps apps in India. A lot of the apps releasing these days have integrated location based services in some form or the other. As long as there's no 3g and no fully featured maps/gps, I wouldn't even pay 15k for the phone. Heck, you're better off buying an ipod touch for the multimedia and a cheap phone for making calls. Death Stryke
^The 3G part isnt a feature exclusive to the iphone. Also the fact that the iphone doesn't enjoy 3G in India again is not exclusive to it. By your logic, you will have to carry 2 devices in your pocket. Well that's a negative point for many. Oh and the Maps function works quite well in India. Use it regularly. Atleast in the main cities it does. edit; Lets not argue, u have an opinion, I have mine. Let it be. @Arun, well it does work as a convergence device for me and many others. Surfing the web or checking my work emails or gmail on the iphone, in the same way I would see it on a computer, while on the move - check. Common attachment format support - check. Music player - check. It wont replace your digicam though

But when it comes to phones its not just about utility. I have to admit that myself and most of my friends purchased costly phones mainly due to the style factor involved. And that is one of the main reason so many prefer the iphone- it simply looks cool. Like you said, most of us use a camera,mp3 player and a handheld console besides that. (though it may not be the case with everyone)

Also do check whether you want K790i or K810i.. As far as i remember, K810i is 3G capable.. ( just a big brother to the K790i.. no other change..).. But also keep in mind that these phones run the old Java environment so you might not be able to enjoy some apps... Edit: Its K810i not K800.. & Joy.. .. i had K810i before & loved it.. thats why got the K850i.. Well, its strictly OK.. love the 3 touch buttons though.. but K810i's camera quality was far far better..
Joy
I have been using SE K810i for a year now , I just love it, I didn't had the budget to buy N95 8GB or N96 that time , so bought this instead with a 8GB M2 card. It has one of the best camera in mobile phones , has most of the required stuff of a N96 , except GPS and a smaller screen. Its a great bang for buck phone.
