Frontlines : Fuel of War

Wasn't everyone praising the MP demo a while back?

Also, a good SP in a MP-based FPS is a rarity these days and it also looks like a lot of fun. Kinda like a much bigger version of MoH:Airborne (hey! I liked that game). I'm actually quite tempted to pick this one up.

I just played the first two levels and they seem like fun (very arcady though). Stupid net was down in office so I couldn't go online but I'll report back once I play a couple of matches tomorrow.

PS: If there are lots of people who want the game Sam could speak to e-express and get a deal hooked up for y'all.

Playing the game right now [sP] and it's great fun! It doesn't do anything terribly innovative but it's solid. The graphics are great and the weapon effects and explosions are spectacular! You can feel the "punch" while firing the standard issue assault rifle. I'm always a sucker for weapon effects and sounds and this game does it really well. The campaign is freeform and you can tackle each objective in a non-linear fashion. It's somewhat similar to Medal Of Honor: Airborne in that respect. The on foot controls are pretty tight but the vehicles don't handle too well.

I must say the game has a rather nice plot as well, which is somewhat uncommon with military based shooters lately. You play as an unnamed soldier (at least I don't think you have a name) and the story is told from the perspective of a journalist who accompanies the squad during their operations. The game is divided into (I think) 7 missions, each with two parts. I completed the first mission and am halfway through the second one. From what I've seen SP doesn't seem to be terribly long... and should take around 8 hours. But there are time trials, multiple difficulties and challenges if you're so inclined.

Cannot comment on the MP (which seems to be this game's main USP) because I haven't tried it yet. I heard the demo lagged horribly so I doubt the full game will behave any differently.

Overall, it's a standard military based shooter and if you enjoy stuff like GRAW (albeit far less tactical), COD, MOH etc you should like this game.

WARNING! The game features a LOT of the typical UE3 "brownish" environments.

The single player campaign is basically a glorified tutorial and can be rushed through pretty fast. I dunno about the 360 version but MP was pretty smooth for me with 150-200 latency constant.
