ATI 4850 vs 4870 vs 4890

Recommended Posts

Depends on the chipset ....

i think 1gb 4870 is better than 512MB

yes genreally the more the meriire just see if it is not a different type of ram

for eg:- 256 mb 8600gt is on ddr3 and 512 mb version is on ddr2.....so obviously the 256 mb is better in this case

^ It is a technology from AMD/ATi in which u add another GPU to get better performance. In Crossfire u can add upto 4GPUs but that's too insignificant for u.

Dude my suggestion is if u can afford then buy that 4890. U r planning to keep it for a bit longer period of time, don't u? As for the processor my suggestion would be Phenom II X3 720BE.

If u can get urself HD 4770 512mb .... 99.99$ currently (try ebay)

buy 2 of them if u can crossfire .... but a single one is enough to play crysis at "" gamer levl ""

Its faster than 4850/4870 'coz its ddr5 ....

I even considered this for my MONSTER .. thought of replacing gtx 295 with two of them .... but had money went for 295 ...

the only -ve is it is capped at 128 something./.....

Dude nothing wrong with X3 710(2.6GHZ) but X3 720 BE(2.8GHZ) has got 200MHZ more clock & multipliers unlocked & it overclocks better.

Since u do ur most of the gaming on X360 ,HD4850 is pretty much good for u & it can run all games on fair settings, unless u got wanna spend more on expensive card.

Did u tried MSI, Palit or XFX?

No dude! 4770 isn't better than HD4850 or HD4870, yes it performs close to HD4850 but not better. GDDR5 doesn't mean that u get better performance than GDDR3. nVidia haven't moved to GDDR5 & it is no less than Ati.
