BioWare: Kinect To Augment, Not Replace

“The reality is it’s going to have a really positive impact,” he said. “There’s that impediment of a controller but hardcore gamers are never going to give that up. It might be nice to see a hybrid of a controller used with additional gesture on the side for immersive elements.”

Microsoft confirms Kinect price

Kinect will cost £129.99/€149.99, and come bundled with launch title Kinect Adventures, Microsoft has confirmed.

"We obviously don't make pricing decisions without doing our research," Xbox product director Aaron Greenberg told Eurogamer in an interview published elsewhere on the site.

"We've done a number of pricing studies on a global scale across a whole variety of audience segments. We've found that when we talked to consumers about the different types of experiences you get with Kinect, the sensor with the full game at £129.99 does quite well.

"There will be a whole new wave of consumers looking for all new ways to experience games and entertainment. To be able to do that with the console plus the sensor and the game at that value is pretty unprecedented."

Microsoft also revealed a new Xbox 360 4GB model, to be launched in the UK on 20th August, priced £149.99/€199.99.

The Xbox 360 4GB plus the Kinect sensor and Kinect Adventures will be available as a bundle for £249.99/€299.99 when Kinect launches in the UK this November.

While Microsoft is yet to announce A UK release date for Kinect, retailers have this evening begun taking pre-orders for the device, the new Xbox 360 4GB and the bundle.

The new Xbox 360 4GB Arcade differs slightly from the Xbox 360 250GB unveiled during Microsoft's E3 2010 conference last month.

The 4GB is internal flash memory, and the console has a black matte finish. Otherwise it's exactly the same as the "whisper quiet" Xbox 360 250GB, and includes built in Wi-Fi, the smaller design, and a hard drive bay.

All first party Kinect games will retail for £39.99. Kinect Adventures, however, will be a full-price retail game.

Ok now Kinect 360 bundle is 249$ (100$ for Kinect + 149$ for Arcade 360).Standalone Kinect cost 149$(50$ more) but with bundle its only 100$ ?. So they can easily afford to sell it @ 100$ price tag but they are not selling it... :ranting:

The cheapest way to get the Xbox 360 Kinect experience is to buy their new bundle, which includes Kinect, Kinect Adventures and an Xbox 360 with 4GB of memory for $300. You'll most likely want to buy an add-on hard drive, but Microsoft hasn't announced any pricing on those. Judging by previous experience, though, it's not going to be cheap.

If you already own the console, then you'll need to pick up the Kinect bundle, which will set you back $150 and includes Kinect Adventures.

One of the cheapest ways to get the PS3 Move experience is to buy their new bundle, due on Sept. 19, for $400. That bundle comes with a PS3, a Move controller, a Playstation Eye camera, a copy of Sports Champions and the Move game demo disc. It's worth noting that Sony apparently hasn't mentioned which PS3 you get in that bundle. We're going to assume the 120 GB and not some specially-gimped, hard-drive-free model.

If you already own a PS3, but not the camera, you'll need to pick up the $100 Playstation Move bundle, which includes a single controller, the required camera and a copy of Sports Champions. The Navigation controller for the Move sells for $30, while extra Move controllers sell for $50. If you already own a PS3 and a Playstation Eye camera, than you just need to pick up the Move controller.

The games for both Wii and PS3 motion-gaming have different requirements, like multiple controllers or extra add-ons like the Navigator controller for the PS3 or the Balance Board for the Wii.

For instance, while both the Wii Sports games and the PS3's Sports Champions can be played with the controller the console comes with, both also support playing with two controllers. This is why doing a direct comparison with the Xbox 360's Kinect is tricky.

One could easily argue either end of the cost spectrum for both consoles, the reality is that the cost and your mileage with any of these systems is going to depend entirely on what you want to get out of the experience.

@zodak's post:

 as usual no source links

Btw, if price is so much of a concern, then people buying the move controller and all could just skip the navi controllers and just use their ds3's. This will save $60 and that brings the price down to $150 which is how much the kinect stuff costs.
