AMD Debuts First DirectX11 GPU

Impressive:

If I was Nintendo, I would go with AMD again for the next console, since they're much better positioned to give a leap forwards in graphics and computing power this time around. And plus AMD needs the money.

The only games PC gamers play is World of Warcraft, DOTA, counterstrike, Team fortress 2 and Dawn of war2...and quite frankly to play these games u dont even require a high end GPU. What a waste of time this is.

Oh Come ON!!! I don't mean every year literally, I mean to say that directX updates that need new hardware seem to be popping up awfully quick compared to before..... when you didn't need to change your damn graphics card for each version of DirectX that came out.

^^Oww come On!! tell me a single game other then crysis which you cant run on your machine at full settings , ppl with 8800 series card havnt bought any new card in last two years and prolly wont buy till end of this year . DX11 game prolly wont see light of the day before Fall of 2010 ..

dxupdates forcing users to buy new card thats a new one!! :surprise:

it bothers me a lot when an ignorant console gamer rants about upgrade, but same coming from a pc gamer turns me inside out .. so please don't Rant just for ranting' s sake

No, I probably won't ever upgrade this PC cos I'll be busy preparing for admission for PG courses next year. And then I'll have to make my own damn money wherever I go and upgrade.

look thats not the point, I'm not talking about the kinda settings I can or Cannot run a game at, what I'm saying is that I bought a card 2 years ago when it was the top of the line model, but when the manufacturers hype it up DX11 cards will sell like hot cakes when lots of ignorant people will buy that even if its at a much higher price.

And really, didn't the DX10 thing cause people to buy cards that were specifically compliant with DX10 rather than possibly cheaper mid-range cards which didn't have SM4 or some such feature required for DX10? I had to pay around Rs30k for the card alone just because it was the newest biggest thing.

There might be people like a guy who recently bought a GTX295 to learn that his card might need replacement within 2 years..... Not everyone has that kind of money.

I never said anything about upgrading each and every component to meet the latest standards, else I should have chucked out my mobo, ram and processor and gone i7 and DDR3. I'm just talking about the plight of people who upgrade just before such announcements.

Your comment shows you know squat about PC gaming and how AA and AF affects gameplay. Technologies such as DirectX are actively used by current gen consoles through the GPUs they utilize. So getting newer versions of DX not only helps PC gamers also kids who own consoles.
