Crysis 2

Playing my own PS3 version finally. The X360 version was just a tad bit sharper, admittedly...and felt a little more smooth. Nothing too significant though, there's not much to differentiate between both versions. Crytek really did deliver on their promise. This is how multiplatform development should be--mad, mad...mad props to Crytek.

The graphics leave every(insert any console game you consider a graphical marvel) other console game in a whirlwind of dust. The lighting esp...reliastic just doesn't cut it...it's friggin real!

This is shaping up to be the best SP FPS campaign I've played all gen. It may sound a bit cliche, but this is a thinking gamers FPS. Yeah, the KZ3s of the world will give you a more visceral and frantic experience...but this is something else. By the time you're through the

Power Out level

you will be surprised how any other console game was able able to wow you this gen.

In short, I'm a believer in the Crytek phenomenon now. I never played or was even interested in Crysis, but now I can acknowledge that these guys are on an altogether different level of proficiency. Don't miss out on this one...whether the X360 or the PS3. PC gamers, well I don't have a first hand experience, but I'll take a measured guess and say this is a no-brainer.

P.S.--I don't know if this is just coincidence, but I was able to see much more AI quirks in my time with the PS3 version. It's not game breaking though, as most reviews would have you believe. It's just erratic, with the enemies oscillating between being downright stupid and being green berets level deadly.

Crytek pretty much never gets credit for making good stylish single player without cheese...such a shame.

The graphics leave every(insert any console game you consider a graphical marvel) other console game in a whirlwind of dust.

With an IQ this horrible and framerate this jerkey, I wouldn't be so sure.

Granted they are pulling off more stuff on screen than 99% of the devs, its to be noted that console development is more concentrated on balance and clever design rather than brute force and tucking in each and every tech.

The Global Illumination in Crysis 2 is real time, this is a big plus for people who want to develop or mod games as this allows them to change the lighting along with GI instantly rather than waiting for hours for the game to pre-calculate the GI and then check how it looks like, but pre-rendered GI has its own merits...quality wise its far superior (just look at Mirror's Edge). THough I do see the future to be real time GI but I don't think its worth the hassle with the current gen consoles.

The game's lighting is pretty much the sole reason why it looks so good, and from lighting I mean HDR quality not some fancy looking Godrays done in 2 dimensional (yea its 2D even in Crysis 1/2). If you keep this thing aside then there really isn't much to this game's tech, its actually missing quite a few advanced effects seen in games like Uncharted 2, Killzone 2/3 for eg. parallax mapping. It's even missing a lot of basic things like soft particles (you'll see particles clip through objects every now and then) and glitchy AI.

^^I have no idea and have never seen a spec sheet for Crysis 2 console or PC. Cryengine 2 does have support for ambient occlusion and parallax mapping though AFAIK. I have no idea if it's implemented in game or not. Honestly, I can't tell the difference on consoles.

Parallax mapping isn't a huge contributor in overall visuals anyway, unless you insist on stopping to stare at walls for extended periods. A steep curve of bump mapping will also do the job on consoles. Even PDZ on the 360 had parallax implemented.

Also, with something running on consoles at the bare mininum of 720p, lesser in the case of the PS3, it's the overall visual fidelity that matters, not how many unique techs are implemented. Note, I'm not saying you're wrong...it's just that Crysis 2 does look better to me than any console game for the most part.

Again, yes, KZ3 and some others do have a more consistent performance throughout...I'm simply saying what looks better. Crysis 2 does look better indeed,and with more advanced effects than any top console game.

Unable to control the wait for my PS3 version, just got the game for PC. The game looks stunning in motion, absolutely gorgeous lighting, and some great explosion effects.

I am getting a console 25-30 fps, with some dips to 15 on 1366x768 and settings of:

g_skipIntro=1

cl_fov=55

pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov=55

i_mouse_accel=0

i_mouse_accel_max=100

i_mouse_smooth=0

r_motionblur=0

g_radialBlur=0

cl_zoomToggle=1

r_UseEdgeAA=0

r_TexMaxAnisotropy=8

sys_spec_shading=2

sys_spec_gameeffects=3

sys_spec_objectdetail=2

sys_spec_particles=2

sys_spec_physics=3

sys_spec_postprocessing=2

sys_spec_shadows=1

sys_spec_sound=1

sys_spec_texture=2

sys_spec_water=2

r_PostMSAA=0

cl_crouchtoggle=1

Much much improvement over the leak, and the music of the game is fantastic, just grows on you.

Solid experience after Killzone 3.

Wow. Impressed...Crytek were spot on when they mentioned dat the console versions r gonna b kickass as well. The game looks stunning on the ps3 as well... the intro scene itself kept me jaw dropped.. the music, lighting, citiscape.. brilliantly handled... only drawback faced is the retarded enemy AI :doh:

I'm wondering now wot made Crytek release dat crap demo on psn... the real game n the demo are almost like 2 worlds apart visually...

I was looking at this comparison here - http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2011/03/25/crysis-2-xbox-360-vs-pc-comparison/1 (I have no idea if they've done it proper or not) and I really can't find much of a difference between the three settings unless I'm looking hard for the same. And I think I'd notice it even less when the game's in motion and stuff is blowing up all around you. On the other hand, that 360 shot looks pretty bad :(
