Ph3N0M
thanks man but a bit tight on budget I am selling my Corsair TX650V2(see TP for the thread) with 4.5 years warranty at 4800 plus shipping. But I guess it will be out of your budget also. Just think about it in case you plan to spend more on the PSU. Noctis
Looking to buy a new gaming PC. I don't have a definite budget, instead would like something around an i5 3550 and GTX 770 (or alternatives). Please suggest the full configuration and brands of the components. And how does the 770 compare to the 7970 being 7.5k higher. I thought they were similarly priced. Edited June 12, 2013 by Noctis
ALPHA17
Btw, if I go for an i7 in this build which model would you recommend? And how does the 770 compare to the 7970 being 7.5k higher. I thought they were similarly priced. If you are going for a Core i7 then the only option for you is the Core i7 3770 ~19000/- with a more expensive ASUS P8H77-V PRO motherboard; alternatively you can go for a Core i5 from the newly released Haswell family. The HD7970 GHz edition and GTX770 (which is a super-charged GTX680) are tied at most points, trading blows up and down the order, at their current prices (Indian and international) the former is a much better deal and value for money, in India for a GTX770 2GB you can get a 6GB EyeFinity edition of the HD7970. This current generation of video cards has been something of a rollercoaster ride in both performance and leadership. In the last 18 months we’ve seen AMD take the lead with Radeon HD 7970, unexpectedly lose it to GeForce GTX 680, gain it again with Radeon HD 7970 GE and greatly improved drivers, and then break even in the end with GTX 770. GTX 780 and GTX Titan make all of this moot with their much greater single-GPU performance, but priced as they are they’re also nowhere near being in the same market segment as the GTX 770 and 7970GE. In any case, more than anything else it strikes us as particularly funny that we’re once again looking at a tie. That’s right: on average GTX 770 and 7970GE are tied. GTX 770 delivers 102% of the performance of 7970GE at both our high quality 2560x1440 and high quality 1920x1080 settings. Of course as with some of the past battles between AMD and NVIDIA in this segment, these cards may be tied in our benchmarks but they’re anything but equal. Meanwhile on a side note, it’s interesting to note that as evidenced by this launch that AMD has pushed NVIDIA to the point where NVIDIA has generally sacrificed their efficiency advantage to reach performance parity at a $400 price point. At the launch of the 7970GE NVIDIA at least tied the 250W 7970GE with a 195W GTX 680, giving NVIDIA an efficiency advantage. But now with the launch of the GTX 770 NVIDIA needs a 230W card to match that very same 250W 7970GE, a testament to AMD’s driver improvements and a reflection of the fact that just like AMD, NVIDIA needed to push a GPU to its limits to get here. There are still some edge cases here worth considering – you can’t get 7970GE on a blower for example – but under gaming workloads AMD and NVIDIA’s power consumption and heat generation have been equalized, making these cards more tied than ever before. GTX770 vs. AMD HD7970 GHz edition benchmark shootout. Hope this solves your conundrum, Cheerio! Edited June 12, 2013 by ALPHA17
Noctis
Thanks again. I was leaning towards 770 because of the games I play (Total War, BF, Skyrim etc.), but not worth the price difference over the 7970. So would the recommendation for the PSU change with the i7 and 7970? (prefer Corsair over CM). Also would appreciate suggestions for a good gaming kb + mouse. edit: Retailer says the 770 is around 30k, will check and confirm. ALPHA17
Thanks again. I was leaning towards 770 because of the games I play (Total War, BF, Skyrim etc.), but not worth the price difference over the 7970. I also play TOTAL WAR never noticed any appreciable difference with an AMD card at the heart of things. Not so sure about SKYRIM and finally BattleField is a TWIMTPB title, if the GTX770 did not perform upto par here then nVidia scams big time. I think it already does. So would the recommendation for the PSU change with the i7 and 7970? (prefer Corsair over CM). Also would appreciate suggestions for a good gaming kb + mouse. No, the SMPS stays the same as long as you are looking at a single GPU set-up. Ph3n0m is selling his Corsair TX v2 650W ~4500/-, I suggest grab that if possible. edit: Retailer says the 770 is around 30k, will check and confirm. Please, share it with me if possible, where are you based? Make sure that guy is not confusing it with a GTX670. For a good gaming keyboard and mouse, I suggest you look at the following options MICE Cooler Master STORM Recon Corsair M60 Vengeance Roccat Kova[+] Logitech G500 KEYBOARDS Cooler Master STORM QuickFire Pro Corsair K60 / K90 mechanical keyboard TVS Gold mechanical keyboard Hope this helps, Cheerio! Noctis
Could be a high end model then. Ill ask for specific details, but most sites including nvidia's official news point at that range. Also Zotac's 770 is confirmed at 32k. AK77
In a press release published today, NVIDIA officially announced the launch of the second GPU in of the GTX 7xx series, the GeForce GTX 770. This news comes amid the launch of the GTX 780, which was last week. The official pricing revealed by NVIDIA for the GTX 770 is INR 29,990. http://www.illgaming.in/2013/05/nvidia-launches-geforce-gtx-770-in-india/

Okay, your call then, if it is retailing for that price. http://www.illgaming.in/2013/05/nvidia-launches-geforce-gtx-770-in-india/ The GTX660Ti was press-released with a price tag of ~18000/- and ASUS teased us with an INR ~20000/- model, then the same model when it reached the retail end metamorphosed with a ~23000/- asking price. I would take all such press statements with a massive pinch of salt, if you doubt my prices please tally it with online retail sites, hardwire.in, The IT Depot (retailing same GTX770 ~33000/-). AK77
That price is for reference model. Plus, ASUS models are always priced higher (usually 2k-3k more in gaming grade cards than other brands from what I have seen). I would say a tight fight and nothing is really great about this card over the HD7970 which he can get for cheaper. You will never see a stock version of this PCB until eVGA does not start retailing in India, then you will see the bone-stock GTX series cards. AK77
770 drivers are still in early stage, so I will wait for the final call. But yeah you can go with any of them. 7970 has that game bundle advantage as well.
