Why do RAM prices fluctuate soo much?

Just weeks ago 4GB Cosair RAM was going for around 1.3k, now its going for 2.3k.

WOW!..it was that cheap....missed the deal i guess...

Dollar rates and alleged scarcity in supply of RAM. Artificial inflation.

yeah...The distributors are behind this articial inflation na??

oh, that is sad :(

there are actually 2 types of 4gb but specs seems to be same yet difference in price is RS 400-500 ..is it just for that cover??

Should i wait for dollar to come down or is it just gonna increase? Since sonia gandhi is a b!tch...

Don't wait, just get over with it. No one can predict the $ rates least of all Sonia Gandhi.

Want to vent your anger, please complain to Uncle Sam and the international monetary system.

WOW!..it was that cheap....missed the deal i guess.

Was that cheap for quite some time, almost two years. Before the crash earlier this year since the Rupee started depreciating vs. $.

yeah...The distributors are behind this articial inflation na?

Depends, I won't be surprised if the official OEM's like SAMSUNG and Hynix are not behind this.

RAM IC's generate profit on volume sales but crashing prices for so much RAM in circulation hit that figure, so create artificial scarcity and viola, price hikes at the bottom level = greater profit through out the chain.

No it is because the ValueSELECT RAM has lower clock frequency of 1333MHz, while the Vengeance has 1600MHz frequency.

Also the heat-spreaders.

-_- Thanks for enlightening me, I have already had a scrap with peeps when I told rebuilding the Kedarnath temple is not an issue because the Temple Trust has plenty of money on its plate but SACRILEGE.

Also, currently it is the US which controls the world economy by means of its ubiquitous exchange (hint-hint), so short of cutting ourselves loose and embarking on a parallel economy I don't see how the situation can be improved.

^^ Well if you dont know then i'd like to tell u that it was king's money who have been liquidated and since he collected it through taxation, it belongs to the govt. now. Plus black money, Mittal b@$t@rd who is in coal scam, reliance who inflate food prices, we who dont give a $h!t and live with it, black money, congress (Which Mr. Mahatma Gandhi wanted to be liquidated, it was his final wish, who name that italian b!tch use!).. And at the end of the day its my fault who is born here and couldnt do anything significant to help it all and yea USA is a B!tch!

Btw, i'll be able to play online on M$ Live, steam, etc. even if i dont 'buy' windows...? Right? The problem is that they are extremely expensive, its like i use Win 7 ultimate which is at ~Rs.17,000 so i dont feel like buying them... Even if it was Rs.5k then also i would have thought about it, just like i ''always" buy genuine games for ps3 as well as PC and will continue to do so even for single player games....

Who started the trend, can I ask that, who removed gold from the markets and made mandatory gold reserve systems in finance?

It was not the Congress, it was the US government and its financial mandarins. So stop blaming everything ill on Congress, sure it is a shameless and hollow party (like any in India) but they are not responsible for every misery perpetrated in these lands.

Keep politics out of this thread. PLEASE.

Yes you will be capable of doing everything.

I bought a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium, should cost you lesser with a brand new PC and all.

You can also pirate games, I am not bothered, I have pirated a couple of titles that were not available here or I could not source. So no big deal. Cheers!

I dont like pirating games, they contain virus, are torture, need a couple extra programs to be downloaded (Virtual dvd, etc.) and since they arent extremely costly, i can buy them ;)

And gold reserve method was needed and is a good way as how else can countries monitor the rate and how many notes to print? And as of trade and stuff, stock market cant be trusted, there was a need of something solid and incorruptible.... And why should the golden bird like India have problems?

Next time, before giving money to the god, think about the poor kid dying because of hunger... Yea i have seen OMG! But i used to think like that since the beginning of time and i dont kinda like people who 'fear' god and give him bribe for their happiness......

Perfectly your call man, admire your honesty, even I try to purchase most of the games I play but titles like Fallout 3 and New Vegas (+DLC) that never got released in India and require one to spoof STEAM with VPN's are not my cup of tea. Hence torrent.

Never mind, I am not here to discuss morality either, your money, your choice.

Btw, any way for me to get cheap windows 7 ultimate?

Whenever you purchase a new PC you can request for an OEM copy of Windows to be installed on the PC. This is the only way I know of cheap Windows, yet legit. Nothing apart from this.

There are many angles of looking at it. I don't believe in this system being fool-proof.

If there is God, these are my views on him

Now, lets keep, the Gods, the powers that be and Politics out of this thread. This is a PC configuration and advice thread.

Need suggestions please.

My current gaming system is PS3. With the new consoles coming out - I am divided between building myself a new PC and keeping PS3 for a couple of years and buying a PS4 or buying a PS4 right away.

If i decide to build a new PC for now, it should play all games on atleast high settings for next 3-4 years. I already have a Dell 24" Ultrasharp which I will continue using but nothing else for a desktop.

I dd some research and my CPU options seem to be two fold -

1. Intel Haswell i5-4570 based system

2. AMD FX8350 based system

I know currently intel kicks Amd's backside in most games - but with the next gen consoles being multiple Jaguar core based, I am guessing newer gen games will do better on AMD. Either of these along with appropriate mobile should cost me around 20-22k.

Apart from GPU, rest of the stuff should be around not more than 17-18k (RAM - 4k, SMPS + Cabinet - 8k, HDD - 4k, KB etc - 1k). That leaves a max of 20k for the GFx card - I am drifting towards either the HD 7950 or GTX 760.

So what do you guys suggest ?

Btw, What to check after building a PC?

I mean after i assemble and complete my PC and install OS (Win 7), what are the first things to check? I guess there are certain stress testing for CPU, GPU, RAM and certain tests to see if everything is working perfectly...

Borrow / Maro a copy of Crysis 3, install that and play on highest possible settings. Other games to try out,

  • METRO Last Light
  • Company of Heroes 2
  • TOTAL WAR SHOGUN 2 (with Blood patch)
  • DiRT 3

Also, if you want benchmark suites you can check the following -- FutureMARK, PCMark Vantage and Super Pi.

@Dirt3 doesnt require such high specs...i think...correct me if i'm wrong.

Decently heavy and an absolute killer at higher levels of tessellation, particle effects and texture quality only amplifies it.

Not a graphical heavy weight but a benchmark for Dx. 11 performance.

Neither is CoH 2 for that matter but it stresses the CPU as well because it is an RTS and the true sight and snow effects can bring cards to their knees. Also no support for multi-GPU set-up (till now).

I forgot to put down The Witcher 2 in my list, that is also a very beautiful game albeit running on Dx 9.0c.

I think anybody who builds a machine now should be looking at running witcher 2 at max settings with ubersampling disabled at 60+ fps.

Depends, lower mid-range cards do not have the muscle to pull of such high graphical fidelity.

Anything below an AMD HD7870 and nVidia GTX660Ti is going to have to compromise somewhere.
