The Wolfy among us
Guys a query. I tried replacing my existing corsair 2+2 gb 1333 ddr3 ram with patriot 4+4 1333 ddr3 ram. Windows 8 doesn't boot after this. It shows the windows logo and then reboots. I've cleared the cmos, through the bios settings. What else can I do? I've a dh55pj Intel mobo. Maybe the new memory modules are not compatible with your motherboard, try running with a single stick of RAM on different slots the try the whole kit on different slots to isolate one particular module if that is the case. Else, the new kit is not certified to run on your hardware. Sorry.
The Wolfy among us
I tried all that. I guess I'll just stow them away till I get a new mobo. Thanks bro.
ALPHA17
if i buy this ram http://www.flipkart.com/corsair-ddr3-4-gb-1-x-gb-pc-ram-cmv4gx3m1a1333c9/p/itmd2ryp2xmmqmsy?pid=RAMD2RYP8CRENWZW&icmpid=reco_bp_personalhistoryFooter_ram_1 will i be able to add the 1660mghz one later?? or will there be any compatible issue?? also will 300 mghz really be huge difference in performance?? If you buy that RAM the following will happen, even if you add faster RAM later on it will down-clock to 1333MHz performance will be held back by this one stick of RAM bandwidth intensive tasks shall suffer keeping in mind how the RAM prices have shifted, I don't see another crash in their prices until the advent of DDR 4 RAM in mass usage, which is still some time away. In my opinion, get a 1600MHz G.Skill RIPJAWS stick now, add another one later and have 8GB of decently fast kit chugging for the rest of the RIG's life. If this falls short you can always get second hand RAM modules from other forums like TechEnclave, Erodov, TDF and expand on an already solid base of performance. Hope this helps, Cheerio! I tried all that. I guess I'll just stow them away till I get a new mobo. Thanks bro. Any time Sire, sorry about the incompatibility. playstation
guys, how is windows 8 for gaming?? and i should install 64 bit right??
Heaven Angel
how is windows 8 for gaming? Using it since day 1. All games works great. (except Battlefield 4 alpha version..doesn't work on mine, but some say it's fixed and works on Windows 8.) It uses less resources than Windows 7 but there isn't any noticeable boost in performance.(+-2-3%) You can view benchmark here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/windows-8-gaming-performance,3331-4.html If you can grab $15-20 Windows 8 key, then why not? and yes, install x64 bit version. The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (4GB+ RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system. ALPHA17
guys, how is windows 8 for gaming? and i should install 64 bit right? and yes, install x64 bit version. The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (4GB+ RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system. 64-bit version is the only option as a 32-bit OS is limited to accessing only 3.25GB of RAM, it is a fundamental arbitrary limitation with no work around. A 32-bit register can store 232 different values. The signed range of integer values that can be stored in 32 bits is -2147483648 through 2147483647 (unsigned: 0 through 4,294,967,295). Hence, a processor with 32-bit memory addresses can directly access 4 GiB of byte-addressable memory.

The Wolfy among us
Think of it this way. The start menu is the bloated up large screen which you see at the start, and is a pain in the a*s to use, and to look at. But if you are like me, go into the desktop mode (which is the same as win 7 desktop), and from there on everything is the same, And sometimes better. All my shortcuts, are either desktop shortcuts, or are on the taskbar. So that I needn't go back to that start screen.
sameuun
anyway to disable that start scree? its really annoying
Ethan Hunt
Windows 8.1 should solve your problem - it will come with a way to boot directly to the desktop mode. Anyway, even if doesnt -> moving to desktop mode takes one click. It still is faster than booting directly to Windows 7 Desktop.
The Wolfy among us
Yes, that's the best thing about 8. Boot times are very good, and shut down is similar to 7 going to sleep. Also, as he said, going to desktop is just one click.

Had little doubt on that part, thanks for correcting it. Guys, how is g.skill sniper compare to g.skill ripjaws?? Ripjaws have tighter timings which means lower latency. Go for it. also goes which online computer store is really reliable?? theitwares or theitdepot?? Also if you guys no any other let me know please. Both are good.
